Back in '97, cousin came to visit on a quick trip from Ohio. I took him for a day trip up to Lost Trail Pass and down into the Big Hole; to the Battlefield Center there; that is so interesting; then we had breakfast in Wisdom; and then drove down thru the valley. We must have stopped a dozen times for him to get different pics.

About half way down thru that valley is a place called Jackson. Once upon a time, there was a 'resort' [big lodge and log cabins' that were heated by hot springs. The people who owned it died. We went thru there in '77 on vacation from California and stopped and visited in the old merchantile/general store. Found out it was for sale...and actually looked into buying, restoring, and operating it. We got our ranch instead. Before you get out of the valley, you encounter many high rises in the road--as you get to the top of the rise, you can nearly reach out and touch those huge white fluffy 'cotton ball' clouds!

Anyhow, back to the 97 trip with cousin....once we got thru the valley, we went into Dillon, MT, which sits about 5600 ft. elevation. When I saw Dillon 20 years before I thought it was a dirty town. But this time, it seemed really nice and vibrant. Western Montana College is there--and specializes in teacher training.

We came back via the Lemhi Pass Road off near Clark Reservoir....that Clark Reservoir has lots of ice fishing in the winter.

That road provided even more interesting back-country. And when it ended in Leadore, we of course, stopped for a cup of coffee and some ice cream....I think the name of the place was the Silver Dollar.

Then a leisurely drive back into Salmon had us wind up at the Salmon Coffee Shop--where cousin feasted on a salmon steak; I probably had quiche.

Golden is west of Denver and Littleton is southwest. I'm guessing a lot of that area has been evacuated. Woodland Park is about 20 miles west of Colorado Springs and they started evacuating there last night. Dawn lives in Manitou Springs which is 8-10 miles east of Woodland Park. Her dad is in Monument which is just southwest of Castle Rock and they're started to evacuate some in that area. So far everything east of I-25 is okay and the mountains farthur south haven't been hit too bad, but I just talked to Dawn again a few minutes ago and she was going through Castle Rock near the Hayman fire and she was telling me that it jumped the firebreak today.

Dawn said that the horizon is glowing orange all the time and that even the moon has an orange cast. She's starting to get scared. She said it is in the 90's and no precipitation at all. I'm really praying they will get some rain and real soon.

Do any of y'all know where to access a live satelite feed of the fire area?

"There was a news crew covering the firefighting that got perfect videotape"

I just now saw that. Really weird, and so tragic.

Here is our new kitty, Squeaker:

This is so fuzzy, I don't know what happened. I was using my point'n shoot!

Beautiful kitty, and such a cute pose. With the point and shoot slowly press the shutter button with the cat's face right in the center and let it focus before depressing it fully.

I do better with my Pentax SLR, but I get lazy and drag out the point and shoot, and am disappointed every time.

She's our newest feline resident. Another stray that knew where to suck up to.

Got my new printer today, shipped by Airborne. The old one had screwed up several weeks ago and I procrastinated doing anything about it until last week. I called tech support, he had me run some diagnostic tests on it, sighed, and said they'd have to replace the printer. Kewl!
