* Between $400 and $500 in merchandise was stolen Saturday night from the Stevens Drug Store here, it was reported by Dwight Stevens, partner in the store. Taken from stock were cigarette lighters, electric shavers and several other expensive items, Mr. Stevens said. The burglars also damaged the big safe in the store, but were not able to get it open, he said.
* High and roily streams in this area provided a few really good catches for the opening day of the 1952 general fishing season yesterday, although some good catches were made in the lakes.
60 Years Ago - 1942
* The Lemhi County Salvage for Victory committee has received information that the scrap rubber situation at reclaiming plants is extremely critical. Reclaimers are becoming discouraged by the lack of scrap rubber they are receiving and there is some possibility of going on a five day week. It is up to every citizen to do his part to help supply the plants with all the scrap rubber they can handle.
* Last Wednesday, the mail from Shoup to Northfork had to be taken across in hip boots in one place in the road. Just a mile above Shoup at the cribbing the river washed the road out and it took a crew 2 to 3 days to repair it.
70 Years Ago - 1932
* Dick Kinney pled guilty in probate court to the possession of intoxicating liquor. The court fined him $20 and costs, amounting to $25.40 and sentenced him to 20 days in jail.
* The Salmon Service Station, owned by Martin & Fischer was sold last Wednesday to the Idaho Oil Co., who took possession as soon as the deal was closed. Pat Taylor is in charge of the new firm's business here. Mr. Fischer has no immediate plans for the future but will remain here at least for the time being.
* FOR SALE---Tennis Shoes--Men's, Boy's, and Girl's, any size made by the Ball Band Rubber Company, 49 cents a pair. No strings on this price, buy as many as you want.
80 Years Ago - 1922
* Manager W.N. Bickler for the G. and P. is spending the week in rough clothes, giving personal attention to repairs of the wire lines, which were badly damaged by the recent high winds, and looking after fortification against spring floods in the Lemhi.
* Five candidates for third grade certificates to teach and who must attend summer schools to qualify are before the county superintendent today for examination. Only one is a male teacher.
* The matter of changing the site of the Carmen school house is still undecided and up in the air, the vote having failed to carry.
90 Years Ago - 1912
* Stand on the Main street of Salmon City on any sunny day of the 365 sunny days in the year and fire a shotgun. You can confidently count on bagging five or six real "old timers" whose stories of the early days will make good reading for future generations. For, here in Salmon, unless you are an old timer, a descendant of an old timer, or married to a descendant of an old timer, there is very little excuse for your existence.
* Mrs. Geo. L. Shoup and the Misses Shoup entertained at their commodious home on the corner of Daisy and Shoup streets Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons of the week.
100 Years Ago - 1902
* BORN--Thursday morning, May 29, 1902, to Ed. Quigley, a 12 pound daughter.
* The dog poisoner is again abroad in the land and on Wednesday night Thos. Bullock's fine white setter dog got mixed up in some of the deadly stuff and the next morning was found cold in death. It seems to us that this is the most cowardly and heartless way to get revenge on a person or to get rid of a surplussage of undesirable animals if such there be. Not only is it cowardly and heartless, but is an offense punishable by a term in the State's prison.
110 Years Ago - 1892
* Mr. Spahn is refitting his brewery and will commence making beer as soon as possible.
* The missionary service announced to take place on last Sunday evening was postponed on account of our muddy streets.
* Z.I. Merritt and son, Jerry, have sold their ranch on the Big Flat and will start for California about July 10. They will go for their teams and take a month or two for the trip.
* George and Dave Sandiland and Charlie Schultz arrived from Shoup on Friday. They finished their contract on the Pine creek mines.
Catch a load of the price for a pair of tennis shoes back in 1932. That won't even pay a 5% sales tax on a pair nowadays.
And in the philosophy department....how they summed up your existence back in 1912 is a riot!
And, of course, we see some things never change, i.e., cruelty to animals, disrespect for the property of others.
As an aside, fellas.....there is a letter to the editor this last week from a guy who lives in New York but who started coming out here to Salmon and surrounding environs back in '97 working for the Forest Service. In this letter, he talked about the beauty of the area being beaten only by the people....and mentions he left a signed, not-filled in check for 2 months with a gal out here so that she could get the ingredients to make lasagna for a party at Bertrams to which he had invited 6 guests.
Maybe folks can understand a little more now why Cuttnhorse and Mrs. C love this area and can't wait to get back.
Mike Tyson today admitted to fearing his failed challenge for the world heavyweight championship could have ended in tragedy at the hands of Lennox Lewis.
Tyson said: "I'm just happy that Lennox didn't kill me in there."

Caller to Fox News won't turn in terrorists he knows are here!
Well, now we know he wasn't faking it.
Have you ever read his daughters column in the NY Post? She sometimes has an interesting perspective on things.

You read about all these terrorists. Many of them came here legally but stayed around after their visas expired, some for as long as ten to fifteen years. Now compare that to Blockbuster: you're two days late with a video and those people are all over you. Let's put Blockbuster in charge of immigration.
LOL .. it better
I heard on the news the Bush signed an Executive Order on this guy .. it must be pretty big
LOL!
Doesn't matter if you are white, black, mexican, french or whatever profiling won't work in getting all the terrorist .. they are all around
What I can get of this news of the arrest, there must have been some heavy duty investigations going on
Won't work .. it is unconsitutional .. and I wouldn't want Congress getting involved in religion .. because before you know .. they will go after other religions
