EU quota likely for flatulent cows Gas emissions from flatulent cows could soon be restricted by a EU quota system as penal as that imposed on milk production, an agricultural expert has predicted.
Environmental scientist Professor Frank Convery claims cows breaking wind and belching account for 35% of Ireland's green-house gas emissions. These have been linked to global climate change. "When you have an agricultural economy - we have over eight million cows in the Republic of Ireland - you end up producing a lot of greenhouse gas. It's similar in Northern Ireland," he said. At present the limit in the Republic of Ireland for the production of carbon gases is 64.5m tonnes. Current emissions are exceeding this limit amid growing concern that the levels would increase further due to the growth of the Irish economy with more vehicles on the road. Professor Convery told a conference in Dublin he believes the short-term solution to the problem could be a EU penalty similar to the that imposed on farmers who exceed limits on milk production. Other possible solutions include imposing dietary changes on cows and forcing them to feed indoors. There are difficulties with this option, however, according to the professor. "We pride ourselves on grass fed cattle, grazing in the open air, full of natural goodness," he said. In the longer term, the solution could be the creation of a global market for "carbon trading", said Professor Convery, who is working at University College Dublin's Environmental Instittue. This is expected to be formed within 10 years and would enable countries to regulate the levels of emissions, the Agmet conference on the effects of agriculture on the climate was told.

EAT MORE BEEF.
Like the Clintons, Dick Gephardt, Tom Daschle, Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Peter Jennings (among way too many others)?
Hey Howlin .. check it one out
It ticks me off because, you don't know when you are banned. To you, it looks like you are still posting. I eventually figure it out when people don't respond to me.
I was really kicking @$$ on one political thread on Sat. and I thought they were ignoring me because I was destroying their socialist views. Then I logged in as someone else and all my posts weren't there >:-(
Actually, the earth's mass, and thus its gravity, is just small enough that methane gas (CH4=atomic weight 16) escapes into space, while it is just large enough to retain water vapor (H2O2=18).
This is just one of well over 100 (and counting) evidences recently discovered for human-friendly design (thus by a Designer) at the earth/solar/galactic/extragalactic levels.
I do beleive it is being tried in Calif, maybe ever here in Humboldt County.
Has anyone thought of trying it on humans?
Carl Sagan, the now-dead famous astronomer, posited just two of these factors, which permitted him to conclude that extraterrestrial life must be abundant. However, the current scientific understanding, that these factors make even one habitable planet anywhere in the entire universe overwhelmingly improbable, demonstrate that our existence can only be miraculous. As Dr. Sagan has finally, if belatedly, discovered.
It is being "mined". Southwest of Trinidad, Colorado, near a large forest fire that was threatening them, are a number of methane wells. These are in coal mining country (another, larger source than cows??) and what the end use for the methane is, I do not know.
