Couldn't methane be harvested and used as a fuel? They might be able to modify those milking machines. Just a suggestion.

I do beleive it is being tried in Calif, maybe ever here in Humboldt County.

It is being "mined". Southwest of Trinidad, Colorado, near a large forest fire that was threatening them, are a number of methane wells. These are in coal mining country (another, larger source than cows??) and what the end use for the methane is, I do not know.
