"the only way to avoid 'probable cause' problems in court is to have congres formaly declare war"Like that's ever going to happen as long as we have the enemy filling congressional seats! See post #105.
There will be another big terrorist attack soon. If Dubya calls a joint session of Congress that night and asks for a declaration of war, and the Speaker of the House stands and says "Resolved that a State of War has existed ...." the vote will be near unanimous. If he waits a couple of daays, then they will not pass it.

I never suggested that we should should forsake ANYTHING this country has stood for. On the contrary. I am simply saying that desperate times call for despeate measures. If terrorists continue to have easy access to us to do their evil deeds, the statue of liberty will not be worth the land she stands on. It's simply a matter of priorities and protecting ourselves and our own....not THEIR's. Immigration is completely out of control anyway. Resources need to be directed to that problem, especially as it pertains to national security. The president has already declared those countries who sponsor terrorism to be enemies of America, and yet we continue pandering to them and making excuses why we can't get rid of the ones that are here and why we continue to let them in. There is no justifiable reason whatsoever to have ANY person in this country under a student VISA who is a citizen of ANY country that has been determined to be a sponsor of terrorism.
I am not suggesting that ALL immigration be stopped, but if it isn't brought under control it will be Americans that are looking for a new country,

Nully, I agree with you too. I think every arab community in the United States has one or more nest of vicious, murdering vipers, a "Trojan Horse" if you prefer. Moreover, I think they are known to the majority of others in those communities and the best, most immediate way of eliminating them is through their own people. I support requiring them to police themselves.

There was a lot of talk after 9/11 that an official declaration of war was not necessary if we are attacked on our own soil. Is somebody making it up as we go or what? We are either at war or we're not. If we are then we need to get some backbone and do whatever it takes, and I think you may be onto a viable solution Swerve, as far as letting citizens loose on them. And if we're not at war, then we might as well be spending our time painting targets on our various buildings and landmarks, because THEY are at war, whether WE choose to declare war or not.
And as far as resources to locate those who are here illegally, I'm sure there are a lot of Americans who would relish the opportunity to be part of the workings of this country again. The people are the strength as Bush has said so many times, so let the people use the freedom we were supposed to have and root out these elements and then stand behind them when they succeed..

Great, sweet. Then develope an intelligent, working plan and I'll support your efforts.

Agreed, but only if the target is the Capitol Building...

I support requiring them to police themselves. Turn each other in? Darlin', hello?, they won't even say that the 9/11 attack was a bad thing!
To: Mo1
"Won't work .. you will have every liberal and ACLU nit wit screaming civil rights abuse .. " Let them holler. If they are not American citizens then they have no "civil rights" and if they are here illegally they SHOULD be sent back. If they are American citizens and we are at war, then different rules apply, and these people are aiding and abetting terrorists, which make them subject to arrest. And as far as the courts, it is high time we had some judges with enough backbone to stand up and throw the ACLU out on its ear whenever they bring some bogus BS issue before the courts.

"they won't even say that the 9/11 attack was a bad thing" Exactly, and they also refuse to allow American officials into any of their compounds mosques or communities to see what is going on. The rest of America is subject to invasion no knock searches. No way will these people police themselves because the evidence suggests that they secretly support terrorism.

I think they might if it was 'splained to them just right. If the right people are squeezed, enough economic strings tightened and a few promenient arabs deported. It would sink in. Arabs know who these freaks are, just as Italians know who the mob guys are. I expect they're afraid of them, afraid of what these murderers will do to them and their families. So we need to give them a greater fear to consider. They may be throw backs to the stone age but they do understand survival.

Thanks Loddy for a very timely reminder.

Nully, that is beneath you and I'm going to ignore it rather than resent it.
Trust me. I'm not some foggy-minded flake on this subject. I think the majority of "these people" want us all dead. If they aren't actively working for it they certainly aren't doing anything to prevent it. I just don't think sitting around complaining is any more productive than wishing and hoping.

Perhaps I would have less difficulty agreeing with you if a US BORNMøøse Limb co-worker hadn't threated to complain to personnel when I put a flag in my cubical on 9/12...
To: Darlin'
Yet you want to risk everything on them self policing their number. I really don't get it.
To: null and void
Nully, in one way or another we've all personally suffered the rippling effect of 9-11 in our lives. Trust me when I tell that it has severely and harshly impacted my life and my profession. I have no love for "these people' now or ever.

Yes it does seem as if they have had periods of "speaking up" alright...speaking up AGAINST our patriotism, speaking up AGAINST our religions, speaking up AGAINST our profiling, speaking up AGAINST our war effort, speaking up AGAINST our president. But against terrorism??? Not that I'm aware of. A couple, when backed into a corner, have paid passing lip service to it, but even then only with qualifiers.
To: Darlin'
But you are willing to trust them with the lives of your children? I must be really thick today. I still don't get it.
