Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Movie Spy Reports and Spoilers thread)
TheOneRing.Net (and other places) ^

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of TTT news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "TTT spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

Ready for the first rumor? OK. Some of you may remember the spy photo released last year that was reported to be a dead Gandalf skewered on a big wheel. It caused a mini panic over the assumed "Bombadilization" of the Balrog in Gandalf's "death".

Well we all now know it was not Gandalf on the wheel, and since Radagast's role in the story has apparently been given to a moth, there is only one wizard left. The Wizard-Kabob can only be Saruman, or a very clever fake to throw off the spies and rumor mongers! Here it is:

So there is our first tidbit!

Yes, I think it's been pretty well established that that is Saruman meeting his end. I think the question is when that will occur...

It could occur in either TTT or RotK, and I have heard evidence of both. It is pretty much confirmed, I think PJ said it himself quite clearly, that the Scouring is out. So this probably takes place at Orthanc. But it could occur when they show up at Orthanc in TTT, or they could have them all stop by on their way back to The Shire. Or, it could just happen without any of our heroes being there--it's hard to say.

I've heard that Christopher Lee said he was in all three movies, but then there are other interviews that point to this happening in TTT. So I am just going to wait and see on this one.

Oh No, I love that part! Merry, Pippin get to be warriors in their own land, and Sam gets to be heroic where Rosie Cotton can see him!! I guess PJ wil contrive something to bring it all together. After seeing the fabulous job he did with FoTR, I'll trust him with the rest!

Barnes & Noble, New York, Q&A Session 23rd February 2002

Q: How will you handle the scouring of the Shire?

A: Peter Jackson states that this is a troubling chapter for him. He understands it was an important concern to Tolkien after experiencing the ravages of war, and how industry changed the countryside. He says he attempted to pay homage to this in the scenes shown in Galadriel's mirror, but that after three films of Frodo carrying the ring, he can't do it.

Thats it folks.

but that after three films of Frodo carrying the ring, he can't do it.

What does that mean I wonder? Can't do it? Who can't? - Frodo? - or Peter?

No, it's out.

This article might word it more clearly, from TORN:

PJ confirmed that the scouring of the Shire is out of the film. He explained that it just didn't fit cinematically and that the scene of the Shire destroyed in the mirror in FotR was their way of paying homage to Tolkien's message about the destruction of the English countryside with industrialization.

More TTT Spoiler news:

* Peter explained that the actual book The Two Towers is too short for a film so they have expanded a lot of the material. He emphasized that the film will be heavy in the development of Frodo and Sam with Smeagol and that there is a lot of development with Frodo and Faramir. So much in fact, that Shelob has BEEN MOVED TO RETURN OF THE KING.

* A fan asked if the Slinker/Stinker would be included and PJ said yes.

* Fran ( Peter's wife ) actually recently wrote and directed a piece in TTT that is all about the background of Gollum. We will get to see how he transformed into the creature that he is... PJ pridefully pointed out that Fran had written and directed it all on her own.

* A fan asked about the Ents storming Isengard and PJ confirmed that we will see this. "Oh yes" he said.

* Two Towers is written to cut back and forth between the three story lines that are taking place.

Morning! Spoiler alert!

These are two interesting paragraphs from the link above: Also see above where maq brought clipping from a casting sheet that is interesting!

* Shelob WILL NOT BE in The Two Towers. Apparently, they've expanded the Frodo-Sam-Gollum-Faramir stuff quite a bit, and as such Shelob has been kicked to the beginning of ROTK. No word on how they'll end TTT. PJ wanted us to know so that "we wouldn't be disappointed." More Arwen too, they said.

* Fran Walsh wrote AND directed Gollum's backstory. So flashbacks of Smeagol and his birthday present will be in TTT.

More Arwen too...

Yep, she rides to Helm's Deep to deliver Aragorns reforged sword. Narsil is reforged in Rivendell at the beginning of the movie I hear.
Here's Arwen riding into Helm's Deep:

I wondered about that... the book only switches once, halfway through... and I am not sure how that would work in a film... So PJ will cut back and forth in sortof "real-time". that would be good.
