I didn't try that many times, Prentice! With God's help, I will be celebrating the first year of smoke free on the 23rd of this month at 9 p.m. :) On my own, the best I ever did was 8 days! I don't trust me--I trust God.

Oh yeah, among the usual new assortment of creatures in these movies there was one that could best be described as an alien redneck. He was this huge blobby looking guy, almost as ugly as Jabba the Hut, and he had these enormous, thick lips that spread from one side of his face to the other. He was almost too hideous to be one of the good guys. He ran what could probably best be described as the space version of a 50's type diner/soda fountain.

I really enjoyed it, but then I LOVE Star Wars Have you seen this?
I think it is the first sensible conservative based explanation of the Star Wars millieu that I have ever seen.
The Case for the Empire
(Everything you think you know
about Star Wars is wrong)

I didn't either....
But I had to try quitting lots of times before I got it through my thick head that after being clean for a few months I could just try a couple of puffs....once I had quit for six months and just had to try one puff.
I a smokaholic....but clean for over twenty years. If I had one puff, I'd be smoking a pack a day within a week.

... you were busy fumbling with the bras of your datesI see that Servant has already responded to this one but I will say that whereas the Ratty generation still takes 27 seconds to perform the removal, my generation was routinely clocked at 27 micro seconds for removal using either hand. But again, we had the benefit of frequent practice. Ratty would rather spend time romancing his Mac.

Catpuppy, on the other hand, probably knew just what to say to parents to convince them that their daughters were in the best possible hands....GASP ...

I learned that people don't tell you the truth about how hard it is. They say the third day is the worst, and that is true, but they don't tell you it never gets any better.

Are you actually in the city of Portland?
My Grandparents used to live in Portland and retired for a while about 25 or so minutes to the South on the Willamette (sp?)River. Nice area.
To: Servant of the Nine
I actually lost the craving after almost ten years.....so take heart....it may happen yet.
That being said....I know I could not take even one puff without falling off the wagon.
And yes....we do fool ourselves about this stuff.

You're helping me remember how pleasant a cigarette was with coffee in the morning....

I haven't seen Spiderman. I loved the first 3 Star Wars movies too. One of the greatest things they had going I thought was the character development from one movie to the next. Then there was this mystique about them too when they were always referring to what HAD been. I don't seem to have the problem making the leap from one series to the other that some people do. Yes, they are very different because of the high tech developments of recent years, so there is a lot that is computer generated that could not have been done when the original was made. According to George Lucas, the reason he waited so long to create the prequels was to allow the technology to catch up with his vision. I think the differences create an effective illusion of a different time. I also like being able to fill in the gaps in the story line.
And I like Jar Jar and Anakin. I thought Jar Jar was a good comic character in Episode I and of course when I saw that one the first time it was with Tyler, so I was looking at it very much from the eyes of a small boy. I think Jar Jar and Anakin were the ones that made it so appealing to him. Jar Jar was in this one too, but not very much and his role was considerably more serious. Anakin in this one came across as an arrogant little show-off, although he did have some good moments.

I am in Hillsboro about 15 miles west of Portland. Oregon is beautiful but folks here think it is because of them, not because it was that way before they ever decided that only they could "save" it.

A good friend was able to quit while in his mid thirties with the promise to himself, if he made it to age 65 the very first thing he would do is go out and by several cartons of Tarrytons - he's only got nine years to go now.

"they don't tell you it never gets any better." That varies from person to person. I was a smoker at 2 different times in my life, both for periods of just over 3 years. the first time I quit was for 20 years and this time it has been 3 and I haven't had any craving at all.

"You never lose the craving, you just get used to carrying the monkey your own stupidity bought for the rest of your life."...I'm certainly blessed by God because I do not crave nicotine/cigarette at all. And I've been around where people smoke and they have smoked in my house....that's seldom, but it has happened. Matter of fact, I left an open pack of cigarettes, a lighter, and an ashtray on my coffee table for nearly 2 months after I quit.
But I know what you are saying about the groping around for a cigarette and lighter....my husband had quit smoking for 3 years before we bought the ranch and he always said it would be so easy to go back. Turns out he did--the monotony of driving the tractor while plowing or disking finally got to him and he started smoking.

Thanks, Mo. That was great. Besides letting Hillary and Helen have it, he smacked a couple of more dems pre/post 9-11 remarks by citing specific quotes, occasion and dates. I don't know how he is able to maintain his cool day in/day out.

The enviro movement has convinced them of their own virtuousness.
Green is good. Believe green and you're automatically better than everyone else.
A bit sad.....and this from a confirmed nature lover.
