Something that is really disturbing to me about this whole situation in the Middle East is Saddam. It seems that all these Arab states are saying that this is a bad time to attack Iraq, and yet it is obvious that that is on the horizon. Meanwhile, as we're completely distracted by the situation with Israel and the Palestinians, Saddam is free to step up whatever it is he's doing to create devastating weapons. Do we really believe that he's going down without taking as many of us with him as possible? And let's face it, short of a miracle, we are never going to have the support of most of the Arab world in invading Iraq.

It really tells you something about the commitment of these guys to protect what's left of mature and old-growth forests on public lands," said James Johnston of the Cascadia Wildlands Project ....

It really tells me something about the need to commit such idealistic, misguided public nusiances to the jails or institutions where they can indulge their fantasies forever. And by the way, "public lands" these are not. I say cut down every tree in this less than 100 acre privately owned stand except for the tree where "Ta" and "Fruit Fly" play house. And arrest for trespass anyone who tries to resupply their tree house.

Concerning this ongoing and probably decade long war...Saddam is only a part.

They were saying the same stuff about Ramaddan(sp?) and all that crap. We have great leadership. All is well with this, so have faith.

Did you read Peggy Noonan's latest this week? If not, do so cause it will cheer you up!

sl, I don't think we are distracted from the need to take out Saddam. If anything, the Palestinian situation is providing us cover to prepare for what will, when it comes, be a very short war in Iraq. And if we were to find out that Saddam is preparing to do some "mass destruction" thing, he would be gone tomorrow. This administration wastes neither words nor time when it comes to dealing with threats.

It's sufficiant to have a publicly stated policy to girdle any tree that has a sitter. And then do it.

I like that idea. But I like even more the notion that private property is just that--PRIVATE. The role of government in this situation should not be to do more studies, tinker with more numbers, negotiate with those who are trespassing. The role of government in this case is to enforce the law by taking the little love nest and its bird-brained tree huggers off to jail so that the owner of the property can use it as desired.

Or a similar light over the final resting place of Saddam. Either we or the Israeli's will see to that.
