He bought one of those colored things that stayed on the front of the picture screen!
It seems like it was l953 or l954 when we got our first television--a Silvertone, I believe. Gads...I remember all the hullaballo about sitting at least 6' back from the screen because it could 'zap' you with some sort of rays. When my Dad was home, he decided what would be on the tube or not--wrestling, rollerderby, the Boron Theater [or whatever it was called], Death Valley Days, that sort of stuff....
What's so funny is that everything is the reverse of here at FR!!!!
I became really disappointed with Sean Hannity. The last time I heard him, he sounded like the conservative side's whiny-assed Alan Combes!
That reminds me of something else about that other forum.....I'm hoping its my imagination, but there seems to be an inordinate number of whiny-assed 'men' there! There's one I thought was a woman and I told her[a him] that he was doing a real disservice to the female gender. He/She told me to go ask.....I told him/her I didn't have to ask because I am a woman!! He said Uncle [actually said, "Bested" and :)] But I can't believe it.....oh for men to be men.
HEY!
This email was sent to a friend of mine who passed it along to me today. It was sent to Company B by Chaplain LtCol Johnson, USAF. The event was National Security Agency's Armed Forces 5k run.
The chaplain's thought:
Last Thursday morning I was one of more than 300 runners in the NSA Armed Forces Week 5k run. It was pretty crowded at the start, but thing thinned out after about five minutes or so, and I took my bearings. Perhaps 200 yards ahead of me was a group of maybe 8 Marines or so who were obviously running together. I decided that a good goal would be to beat them, which seemed reasonable as I am a macho Air Force Chaplain and they were only a bunch of United States Marines. I kept them in sight for the next couple of miles, but the longer the race went on the younget those guys got! It became apparent to me in the last half mile that I was not going to catch them, and I resighen myself to finishing well behind them. Then I noticed that one of their nubmet was struggling and was gradually dropping off the pace. I panted out a word of encouragement as I caught him and realized that he was not about to give up. Within 100 yards of the finish line I saw a strange site. The entire group of Marines made a u-turn in the road and were running back towards me. As they ran past me I noted their well-chiseled muscles and the determined set of thier jaws. I glanced over my shoulder in time to see them rally around their buddy to provide the emotional support of the team so that they could all finish together. No way would they leave a struggling comrade behind. As I entered the finishing chute, I murmured a prayer" God, I'm glad those guys are on our side."
And so it was that I learned a theological truth form the U.S.Marines that is as vivid as any my seminary professors ever taught.
"If anyone...sees his brother in need but has not pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Let us not love with words or tongue but eith actions and in truth." 1 John 3:17,18
Last Thursday I witnessed " a few good men" in action. They reminded me of the strength of being a team, and that the words without actions are pretty much useless.
Thanks, Marines.
Now I don't know how recent this story is..there was no date.. but as any Marine will tell you, when we have to take the PFT (physical fitness test) and one of our Marines, even if we don't know him/her, is straggling, we just cross the finish line for our score and then go back and get our brother/sister Marine..We just do it..it is SOP.
May the VI's multiply and prosper and infest the land of Philly and specifically the land of Mo. And may they constantly pester Mo and ask her thousands of questions each day so that she will yearn for the day when the old goat catpuppy was her sponsor for official membership in the society of Southern Ladies and her southern mentor. So let it be written, so let it be done.
