My whole point is that if society can protect property rights with laws, it can protect the right to life, too. It's wrong to steal, and government enforces that morality. The "drugs are my choice" crowd lures kids into thinking that "rights" are right and parental infringement on their rights is wrong. My kids have only one parent telling them that drug use will harm them, while people of all ages and purposes (people who don't love them) telling them drugs are fun and cool no problem and that they are much smarter than mom and can decide for themselves. Mom is just a Pharisee.

Sometimes I want to tell them to SHUT UP! and just look at the damage they are unwittingly advocating.... but instead I try to have a reasonable discussion and not call anyone names.

If the 'victim' is at home and does not enfringe on the rights of anyone else, then yes. Especially if he or she produces that drug on their own property.

I hope you aren't going to try the "guilt about the cost of their insurance and healthcare to society" angle...

And I don't dare let down my guard in this battle because I have to fight it all alone. There is no "We the people" - there's just me, the individual, against the world. Collectivism happens. Just not for me. It's a world thing.

Idiots will be idiots. They can't help it. It is in their genes. In the long run the best we can hope for is they take themselves out of the gene pool early and well, with minimal damage to the rest of us.

Your kids are not idiots, I expect they will straighten out. With the parenting they have had their chances are very good. But, it may take having someone the know very messily removing themselves from the gene pool to drive the message home...
