I am not suggesting that it be ignored or covered up and it is definitely a problem for the church, however all the hype makes it sound as if the vast majority of Catholic priests are homosexual pedophiles and that just isn't the case.

The sources within the church admit that a majority of the clergy and the vast majority of younger priests are homosexual. The Boston Diocese has already turned over 10% of their priests in to the District Attorney as pedophiles. That is a just the ones found so far. That rate is 5 times the rate found among teachers or other denominations clergy.

Do you realize the good will the Church has lost in the last 20 years? A generation ago most non Catholics might not care for the Church, but they regarded priests generally as Bing Crosby in 'Going My Way'. For the last 20 years non Catholics have regrded Priests as predatory homosexuals until proved otherwise.

I have half a dozen nieces and younger second cousins who have married Cathoolics and converted. Now they are all having major family fights about getting the children out of the Church before it is too late. They just assume that their children will be molested if they don't get them out.

The Cardinal's statement that Serious Serial pedophiles will be thrown out is not going to help. They are saying that the first Altar Boy is free. Every priest gets to rape one kid as one of the perks of office.

There was an enourmous amount of Catholic bashing, but in the '60s and '70s real gains were made. After Vatican II atitudes changed a lot among people my age and younger. That has now been lost. Feelings are probably worse now than at any time since the religious wars of the 16th century.

Don't know about other areas of the country .. but up here with the except of High Schools .. Priest do not normally teach classes .. it use to be solely the nuns but now it is mostly regular teachers that teach the kids ..

And besides .. not all the priests are abusing children but due to all the media attacks .. this is the impression a lot of folks are getting .. hence my comments of the witch hunt ..

Hollywood portrays all southern people to be dumb, stupid and slow ..

Now I could listen and believe everything Hollywood's says or I can actually meet folks from the South and realize for myself that in fact MAJORITY of southern folks are funny, smart, kind and VERY intelligent people

I agree that it is only a few percent of priests that are pedophiles, but the percentage is much higher than in regular teachers or other religions as has been shown in Boston, and how do you know about any particular priest?

There is no problem in my family with the little ones taught by the nuns, but when it comes time to study for first communion and to go to high school, then the fight starts up.

People do think Southerners are stupid, and we just have to try to grow past it. The Church on the ther hand has the option of getting past this mess in months if they clean house ruthlessly, even if it leaves them short on priests for a few years.
