It belongs in the same category of perverted religion as self-flagellation. I thought you had decided to go along with Melanchthon and look for similarities, not condemn the differences you don't understand in other Christian sects? You are beginning to sound like Jimmy Swaggart again.

The race has been red flagged while they clean up. No one seems to know how many cars will be able to re start yet

I understand that self-torture and confusion are denial of the sufficiency of Christ and usurption of the Holy Spirit's authority. Gimmickry is cultish and/or commercial. That much understanding keeps me from understanding how shallow = deep, or worldly = heavenly. Yes, I've been contemplating my belly button again, though I need a mirror to see it.

Gimmickry is cultish and/or commercial If you mean gimickrey like a maze or a Rosary, you are talking about the largest single segment of the World's Christians, and hardly a 'cult'

Hey Swerve. I found the lizard. He'd made his way to a ficus tree in the living room. LOL. So far I haven't been able to convince him that I mean him no harm. :)
This morning a man from the nursery looked over my yard and said the whole thing has to be treated for ants. :( The spot treating I've been doing just made them move from one location to another in my yard. We have to kill the ones that are here, then treat it about every two months to prevent it from happening again. The neighbors behind me and on one side treated their yards last weekend and that is why I had such an invasion this week. LOL.

from Our Sufficiency in Christ by John MacArthur, Jr.
I am amazed at what people believe they must do to augment the power of God's Word....
Many assume that without some gimmick the gospel message just won't reach people, and unless we accomodate it to the fashion of our day we can't hope for it to be effective...
Simply preaching the Word is out. That's too confrontive, and the unvarnished gospel is too offensive... Better to charm people first, then slip the gospel in subtly... There is seemingly no limit to what some churches will do to entertain people.
Wherever pragmatism exists in the church, there is always a corresponding de-emphasis on Christ's sufficiency, God's sovereignty, Biblical integrity, the power of prayer and Spirit-led minitries. The result it a man-centered ministry that attempts to accomplish divine purposes by superficial programs and human methodology rather than by the Word or the power of the Spirit.

Hi Darlin' -- sounds like treatment for ant invasion doesn't actually kill the ants, just annoys them.

Hehehehe. An "ant relocation" plan.
Well, it has gotten some of them but apparently, the Queen is elusive and until she/they get a taste they just keep shuffling around.

If you can find a 3 or 4 year old they seem to have the best luck stalking the lizards. I've never known a grownup that could reliably catch them.

Don't let the UN know you have refugee ants setting up camp in your yard and that you plan a massacre.

Do you remember the panic a couple a years ago when Microsoft lost their antitrust case and the rumor went around that they were literall going offshore, actually to Canada a, and taking their employees with them?
Tax them and they will leave.

Many assume that without some gimmick the gospel message just won't reach people, and unless we accomodate it to the fashion of our day we can't hope for it to be effective... That has nothing to do with using an object as an aid to meditation and prayer. If you want to pick a fight with the Catholic and Orthodox Churches over this, and call them cultish and gimmicky, you are on your own.

The timing on this aggrevation is pretty good. Tomorrow we have an association lunch/picnic. So, I ran over to the Ag Center this morning and picked up information explaining the preventative treatment that I'm going to do. They suggest the whole neighborhood do it or else they'll all have next week what I have this week.
