I want to improve the per-state message boards as found here while reducing the total amount of program code (to support.)
My idea was to create topics in the News/Activism forum for each individual state and allow interested parties to subscribe to these topics. Example. My thought was that the state-level activism conducted on the per-state message boards would then be greatly enhanced... with the ability to create separate discussion threads, and all the other tools that are included in the standard forum package.
However, my idea has been met with much resistance and I would like to know exactly what the issues are. I first thought I merely didn't communicate my intentions clearly, but I'm not so sure that is the case now.
Have to SLIGHTLY disagree with you here, gnarled. I was part of another group that gave up on the Network because it simply wasn't user-friendly enough and, therefore, stifled activism. I think most of those using the state board appreciate the "ease" of posting without having to jump through additional hoops.
Having the flag show when there is a new message is very helpful.
Thanks for all your efforts to improve our wonderful Free Republic and for keeping everyone informed of changes you are considering.
I haven't been tooling around FR much, but is this part of the current site or the beta site? Is there a recent thread discussing the recent changes? If not, please flag me to a thread about the changes if it is posted.
Have you considered Freep mail forwarding to personal e-mail?
I would be happy with a way to FReepmail all FReepers in a state list at once. Perhaps it could be permissioned to members of that state only. Currently, it is quite time consuming to FReepmail each FReeper individually.
That was what I was thinking already. I would love to see a 'FRee-for all' button or setting, one that would 'subscribe to all'. That way if one wanted to just watch the unfettered flood of info that Free Republic is wash over them, it could be done with one click.
There are many subjects, that if asked ahead of time, I would say I had no interest in them. After seeing post after post go by from other FReepers I recognize and value their opinions, sometimes I jump into new water.
One last advantage to an unrestricted veiw of the whole is that it is the way that the specialized knowledge base of members is shared so quickly where it is needed.
P.S. JohnRob - Why can I not seem to be able to post BOLD italics?
*I have an sp02 monitor and an NIBP device hooked up, and it's neat, but that's at work... at home, it's S.O.L
I used that feature, too.
Further, I belong to about three chapters and I don't know if they coordinate with each other and besides, I contact them more than they contact me usually when I have interesting info to pass along. I don't know if they use it or not. Some contact should be from the top down with input from us prn.
I think in Florida, if we are going to help the local candidates and Jeb Bush, we better start working together as one at least as far as Jeb is concerned.
We need people researching the opponents, people studying Jeb's hot button topics, I am running a monthly Jeb photo thread like Dubya's Daily Dose. And, I am really disappointed that even though we've tried, there aren't enough Jeb bumper stickers in Tampa Bay. My car alone is not going to get the job done.
Florida is going to be the race to watch and we just aren't working together for Jeb. It's not sewn up either. Do we need state governor's race pages that we can regularly visit for the latest info set up by already existing chapters? Looking for separate chapters is harder than looking for a singular governor's race page for activism with maybe an actual calendar on that particular State page so we know when and where to go for rallys or to peacefully assemble with clever signage. Thanks for reading all of this. floriduh voter creator of McBride = McLawyer. It's catching on...
I know going thru the state list is easy, but it is another step and is a pain in the neck.
I didn't mind having my NJ flag waving, but I didn't like the comment along with it, so I clicked it off, but now I get nothing -- even after I negated my 'click off ' order.
You must be a pretty tough guy to have taken on all these changes, knowing the uprising that would follow!!! LOL! (chip off the ole block?)
As far as having a way to access instant action items, the forum doesn't have that ability at the moment, but I think it will soon. Until then, usually instant items are placed in breaking news. I know when I see something, I ping all the chapter leaders to it.
EBUCK has a great idea here. Of course, as late as I usually get into these threads, it is probably already emplemented.
Speaking of ping lists, I still don't understand how to activate one, determine just who is on one, or even where to find the darn things!
