The soul of the party (of America) is not without a religion - Christianity is a good choice.

FOFL - I know what you mean. Actually my lawyer husband gave up the most lucrative type of law over 15 years ago because he is a Conservative Christian and could not live with having to defend liars and helping divorce people. So yes, there are some good ones.

I am not speaking about the Republican party on the issue of abortion .. I am speaking about the country as a whole .. and the numbers are not 70% pro life
As much as I would LOVE to have this country be all conservatives .. they aren't and we still have to deal with those people also ..

When I was a delegate to a state convention in 1992 there were just a handful of pro-choicers in attandance, Val, that is not true. I fought that primary fight in Texas and you know as well as I do that in most precincts the anti abortionists won by only a small percentage in the ccaucases and that gave them all the delegates at the state convention. It was all or nothing just like the Electoral Vote.
No poll of Republicans by any polling service even the Republican ones, has ever found more than 55% of Republican Voters Anti-Abortion

"Socialism depends on the apathetic!" AND the ignorant!

Your Dad is a fascinating man. I'm proud of you for making him proud (but I won't call you a hero *grin*).

Ever read "Through the Looking Glass?" A few sentences spoken by Alice and Humpty Dumpty make a point about corrupting the meaning of words:
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more nor less." "The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master--that's all."

Servant, there is nothing wrong with being funamentally right. ( Now you agree with me don't you?) No, there isn't, but that doesn't make fundamentalists right

Swervie, I was in liberal Washington State 10 years ago. The convention was in Yakima.

The soul of the party (of America) is not without a religion - Christianity is a good choice. The soul of America is damned sure without a religion, and I will fight to keep it that way

"Fundamentalist" is a useful term for people prejudiced against people of Faith when they want to express superiority and disdain of the fundies. Otherwise, it means nothing, as it gets applied across the board equating Palestinian mothers who send their sons off to be suicide bombers with American Christians who homeschool their children or vote Republican because they agree with the party's pro-life platform.

My folks were old south Democrats....I always thought they were 'conservative'--both my parents only went to 8th grade...and Dad was based on farm work. I, too, know what it was to work for whatever I needed....have worked sicne I was 14--started a house cleaning and babysitting service! Finished high school and started 1 college course which was cancelled; in Montana, I went back to school and worked my way thru Accounting I and almost all of II, which credits were transferrable to the University--but husband got quite ill and I shucked it all.
Egads....your Dad was like my Dad when it came to collecting unemployment!!! I could tell you stories!!! Yikes!
Guess my folks would have been better in old age had it not been for my kid brother--he got messed up in drugs and a gang thing--and my folks felt it their duty to make restitution for his destructive nature....and pay for attorneys and court costs!! And then trips to see the little s**t in juvenile facilities--even after he became an adult, they tried.
My Dad is 89....and a prolific reader--however, nothing like Latin or Shakespeare!!
First time he ever voted for a Republican [and there were days I even doubted that] was when I ran for office in the state of Montana! Since then, he has been learning a lot more about politics....I shovel things his way and he reads the Washington Times....he even picked Keyes to vote for--and that was without my influence--all I ever said was that I was voting for him--Dad had to work it out in his mind--and in his mind, Alan was the only one that understood Constitutional government.
I think my Granddaddy would have really been proud of me and my feistiness in going after politics--especially the running for office!! Dadburn it all, anyhow!!! :)

Nighty night Lynn.
Ratty, it's a rerun - just for you!
To: Mo1
That's just it, the liberal pro-abortionists don't just want to keep it legal. They want to PREVENT any real abortion education and they are militant about it!

Barry Goldwater ... was the great libertarian who said none of these things were the governments businessSwerve, he did indeed veer off into libertarianism in his later years but earlier he certainly thought of himself as a conservative, as did those who supported him (I still have my AU H2O button). His campaign book was "The Conscience of a Conservative." Further, to say that Reagan sold the soul of the party to the Religious Fundamentalists is comical. He, like all successful conservatives was conservative on both social and fiscal issues.
