"The ballots are counted. The maps are drawn. Democrats will control the House and the Senate when the new Congress gavels in. That is the premise the country just handed Republicans, and the Senate still has a few weeks of majority power left. John Thune and the usual clutch of RINOs are treating that window like an inconvenience instead of the last clean shot they will get for years."

Waiting for Thune to rise to the occasion seems futile to me.
Thank you. Usually he ignores messages but if someone could post his full contact information daily here on FR, that would be our best shot.
Seems like the odds are about the same as winning PowerBall however...
People are always tempted to kill the filibuster for some short-term reason, but history shows the pendulum of politics can swing hard and fast and would soon give those who break the filibuster reason to regret it. I realize it’s not written into the Constitution, but it’s been a great tool for restraining government from overacting, and I’m far more concerned in the long run about the risk of government doing too much than I am concerned about individual pieces of legislation. Besides, the latest election shows clear enough that people who imagine the chief threat comes from outside our country are not paying attention.
The democrats ran on killing the filibuster so the Republicans are stupid not to shoot their last shot while they can...
The Rats will have at least 54 senators in January. Now is not the time to advocate ending the filibuster, and the present Republicans in the Senate will not vote to pass the SAVE Act anyhow. They now get to move on to be lobbyists and make more money than they do now. Why would they rock the boat?
The democrats ran on killing it. It will be dead the day they take power in Jan.
What’s the purpose of eliminating the filibuster to pass a bill that wouldn’t even have 50 votes to pass it in the Senate if it really mattered?
The 17th Amendment is the 2nd worst amendment to the Constitution. Only the 19th is worse. Letting women vote has totally destroyed this country.
And dump that stupid blue slip rule.
Telling Thune what he “must” do.
You people crack me up - like Thune hasn’t been doing as he was told all along.
You are correct, in fact, we should stop calling the dems, dems. They are Bolsheviks, in the classic sense. Revolutionaries intent on overthrowing capitalism for Marxism. Shades of the Russian revolution.
If the Republicans had 75 seats in the Senate today, they’d adopt a rule requiring 80 votes to clear a filibuster.
VETO
Nothing to fear since the dems don’t have 60 seats in the senate, right? /s
The fillibuster will remain in force until the day the new congress is sworn in, then it will be insta-nuked. Thune did the job he was instructed to do.
Filibuster rule is a Senate rule, POTUS cannot do a thing about changes to it.
Obviously the geniuses that thought up this idea couldn’t think far enough ahead to foresee the obvious.
narcissistic PD, the person has an extreme sense of self-importance and entitlement, together with a strong need for admiration. He is envious of others and expects them to be envious of him. Lacking empathy, he may readily lie and exploit others to achieve his aims. If obstructed or ridiculed, he can fly into a fit of destructive anger and revenge—sometimes called “narcissistic rage”—with disastrous consequences for everyone involved.
Narcissism takes its name from the ancient myth of Narcissus, although the narcissist is less in love with himself than with an idealised image of himself.
Thune is just one reason the GOP lost so bad. The GOP is dead.
No but if the commie dems try to reverse the "Save Act" he can certainly VETO the reversal.
The Filibuster Rule was enacted back in the day when dems were still somewhat civilized and cared a little something about the Country. I guess it's obsolete now.
