Crude Oil Prices Plummet a Day After the Election (but It's Probably Just a Coincidence)
twitchy ^ | 04 November 2026 | Doug P

Posted on 11/05/2026 3:14:41 AM PST by Merrick

One day after the midterm election, two economic-related things are happening.

First, the stock market is having a really good day. Democrats and their media allies would like everybody to believe it's because that party will be taking control of the House and Senate, but the actual reason might be a bit different:

The stock market is soaring today because the truth is most business people would rather politicians do nothing and with gridlock guaranteed for the next two years they will get their wish.

— Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) November 4, 2026 Gridlock makes for a couple of years worth of predictability (not to mention the impeachment efforts and constant lawfare the Democrats have been promising).

Second, crude oil has dropped quite a bit today.

Funny, nothing has changed in Iran from yesterday and yet oil is plummeting. What does this tell you?

It’s interesting you take a direct response and evidence YOU REQUESTED as a dodge.

so you are not going to address the fact that, when you demanded proof that I do this for a living, I provided a screen capture of the tens of thousands of dollars a year terminal I am sitting in front of as I respond? The one that only people who do this day in and day out would use? THAT is a dodge. Mine was proof. All you are doing is illustrating my point of how many of you cowards run and hide the moment facts enter the conversation.

I try to do that myself.

As far as our newbie 'friend', I've dealt with a number of them who post links, probably using a search engine to grab links related to the subject, but they tend not to read the 'fine print' if they bother to read the link at all. Asking them to demonstrate they understand the content usually has the effect to turning over a rock and watching what is scurring away.

I probably wouldn't have bothered, but when a claim is made like 'some of us do this for a living', intimating they are one of that some as an appeal to authority fallacy, it was too good to pass up. What's even funnier, if n00b had demonstrated understanding instead of coming back with another link, I would been like: 'okay, know what you're talking about. Now lets have a discussion'.

I do share the one complaint he has. We had a Petersburg, AK, resident come on here a few days ago and defend Decoy Dan saying the story was completely made up and was a fiction created by Trump and Musk - and that he’d met Dan once. When I pointed out the New York Times published texts between Decoy Dan and Democrat party operatives and asked him if he’d bring it up with Dan if he ran into him again the response was, “back off noob!!”

Such a witty retort.

Hey if we are being honest it would be simple to address the fact that I provided pretty clear proof of the fact that I do this for a living. A Factset terminal is a professional tool requiring tens of thousands of dollars a year to operate. Instead of simply acknowledging that fact (that included their own post as proof it was a real capture) it’s ignored entirely. That’s just willful ignorance as a dishonest poster.

If you ask someone for proof, address it when provided. Don’t just turn your head like it never happened.

The far left, GOOD NEWS MEDIA, is back. No more of that commie “bad news” every day, all day long we’ve had to put up with for the past 20 years.

Your terminal is ~27000 yearly. Any recent scores you would like to mention? Not sarcasm, just curious.

Brand new here and calling for reason and sanity. Really? It used to be great. Now, you evil, demented types are are flying into the soup as fast as you can. You are turning it into a really pointless place to go for news.

In more aspects than not, DJT is simply *NOT* conservative.

Of course I voted straight ticket R. Of course I encouraged everyone I knew to do the same. I also held my nose and voted for him 3 times - and yes, held my nose.

There are things I was happy about - I always like cutting taxes, even though none of the goodies really helped me. I liked DOGE cuts, but that was uneven (and petered out too quickly). I do not like ILLEGAL immigration (though, unlike many here - I’m fine with LEGAL immigration, regardless of where its from).

But the problem is MAGA wanted actual conservatives to accept DC-down control, completely trampling the 10th Amendment. I will not support that. MAGA wanted government to run trade. I will not support that.

Even worse, Government taking ownership stakes in private companies? That’s a Crazy Bernie - and I will loudly oppose that. Free checks and handouts? I don’t care if they go to the ‘right’ people.

OF COURSE I know the rats are worse. Again, that’s why I voted R.

But TDS? No. I’m not going to abandon my conservative principles just because it was convenient or because some leader demanded I should.

Above all, I hate “govertainment” - and that’s what we got. Sick burns and blather.

Health care stocks are rising.

There's a definite collusion going on that defies seeming common sense. I don't understand why the oil producers couldn't agree to a very temporary halt to fuel price inflation for the sake of keeping the party most amenable to their profiteering in power.

Now, right after the power turn-over, they DID relent. Which means I was wrong about which party they saw most amenable to their profiteering.

It's a certainty that fuel prices were the primary reason for the Democrat's resurgence, not an overseas conflict that's cost us the least amount of casualties in all history. That and public education's success in producing a generation of instant-gratification mush heads oblivious of the advantages they enjoy from the capitalist system they were blessed to be born in.

I get a lot of leeway due to my role which allows me to also drop messages here etc... but not that much ;)

My role is in management so more about compliance and oversight. Since we are heavily regulated I’m monitoring everything day in and day out for the tiniest irregularity or potential regulatory violation. Reviewing all the trades and interaction watching out for anything FINRA or the rest might not like.

It tells me that the London crude oil price setters are really happy, and now their partners(Iran is one) don’t need to agitate the fuel markets. And also shipping insurance won’t need to play their role in keeping prices high

I always love to see a company miss their revenue target by 1% and have their stock go down 15% as a result. Can you say “great buying opportunity”.

Exactly, I made a bunch of money the past 20 months like this.

Totally counterintuitive. The IRGC must be creaming their jeans, thinking they can take back control of the strait without fear. Then watch what happens to the price of oil!
