The flight attendant saw an incoming message on the coworker’s phone beginning, “I’m gonna hijack.”
She alerted the lead flight attendant, and the captain was notified after the plane passed 10,000 feet.
The reporting doesn’t explain exactly how she got a view of the screen—whether she was walking past, standing nearby, or looking over his shoulder. So “she saw the text on the recipient’s phone” is supported; a more specific explanation of her viewing angle would be speculation. Police later examined that passenger’s phone and confirmed the message came from Milne.
Thanks - quite frankly I would not be able to make out text on a person’s smartphone screen when walking past them or even next to them. But they probably are trained to be hypervigilant

My question is, how did the feds know what he texted? Did somebody report him? If not, proof that the feds are monitoring your cell phone every word you text and speak into.
Some people, for whatever reasons, control their phone, to make the print they see in texts, a good deal larger than the standard default font.
Or maybe he had one of those fancy fold out phones, that had the effect of being a tablet...
The bottom line is the FA saw it. Stop. End of story.

Some “jokes” are disastrous for some contexts. If you do not know this your parents failed and you need to be forced to go back to living with them until they turn out an adult.
