MINNEAPOLIS — A former federal immigration judge says Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who is under investigation, could face both criminal charges and denaturalization.
There are two federal probes ongoing into the congresswoman — the first into alleged immigration fraud and the second involving her financial disclosures and a sharp discrepancy reported just one year apart.
“If somebody who’s a naturalized citizen — which I believe Ilhan Omar is — is convicted of a crime, that doesn’t automatically mean that they face denaturalization or anything like that,” Nathan Hansen, an attorney of 23 years, told Fox News Digital. “They would be handled by any type of other normal punishment that would come from the court.”
Hansen was appointed by former Attorney General Pam Bondi to serve as an immigration judge earlier this year. He served in the role for four months.
Denaturalization proceedings are separate from any criminal case that could arise from the federal investigation into Omar, whose “real name,” according to sources familiar with the investigation, is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. Omar is under investigation for alleged immigration fraud related to the way she or her late father filled out her citizenship paperwork.
“A denaturalization proceeding, or somebody to strip somebody of their naturalization, is another proceeding, which would be a civil proceeding brought by the Department of Justice, presumably maybe on behalf of the Department for Homeland Security, who handles most of these things,” said Hansen.
“If there was some sort of nexus between the criminal conviction and somebody’s citizenship, it might be more likely that the Department of Justice would bring a denaturalization proceeding,” Hansen continued. “But I think it would be a discretionary matter within the people who are running the Justice Department.”

If in fact she does win re-election, then the prudent thing to do at that time would be to arrest her and deport her leaving a need for a special election.
If you lied on your citizenship application there may be a very different result.
I bet nothing more than Double-Secret Probation...
Minnesota’s capacity to “fix” anything of this nature may well be beyond any human effort, this is not a traffic ticket.
If Ilhan, whatever her birth name may be, was pronounced a citizen as a result of a parent obtaining a citizenship and was proven to have still a minor at that time, there is still the question of whether the person posing as the adult parent was in fact the real parent, and whether there were any false representations made in the process of applying for citizenship. Anyone granted citizenship on the basis of that privilege extended to the adult sponsor is subject to the same limitations.
If Ilhan were NOT a minor at the time of the parent’s application for citizenship, then she must have applied for citizenship in her own right, and there is no evidence that any such application was made. So she would not have citizenship in any instance.
So it boils down to, is Ilhan even a citizen in the accepted legal sense? If not, she must necessarily be frog-marched out of the House chambers and stripped of her membership in the House of Representatives forthwith.
Any of the hundreds of filthy criminal democrats in prison yet? I didn’t think so.
It's a near certainty - her district is like Somalia
More than one most likely...
Check anyone with one of those funny Amish names. Chances are good.
Total House of Rep votes that win by one vote are rare.
However, her Committee votes were probably often a single vote victory or loss.
There may have been critical Hard Left legislation that was initially brought to a full House vote by a one vote victory out of a Committee.
Our justice system will not remove her. It will have to be by other means.
We should stop posting her as “Omar’ instead as Ilhan Elmi.
“which I believe Ilhan Omar is”
She absolutely is not. There’s no evidence that her father was naturalized, and even if he was, it was under false pretenses.
Also, she was 19 at the reported time he was (allegedly) naturalized, and could not confer naturalization as a minor.
She’s cooked either way.
If she had proof, why doesn’t she show it? Hmmmmmm?
....”...Former federal immigration judge says Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who is under investigation, could face both criminal charges and denaturalization....”
...WTF...!!? could...?? how about “must” or
should”...??...this is bulls**t on steroids...no one will do anything about this sordid situation...count on it.....
Good point. In all likelihood she will be forced from office at some point. Then what? Another loony lefty will take her place. Psychological satisfaction for those committed to the rule of law, but zero impact on the actual balance of power.
Her name is not Ilhan Omar. It’s Limu Emu or something like that.
I like AKA Omar.
Ilhan Omar might be, but is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi a naturalized citizen?
People. Where in the article does it specify which SERIOUS consequences she faces? The only thing serious besides the deportation possibility(played down) is doing time. She should face both.
The article doesn't specify as far as I read. There are possible charges concerning immigration fraud concerning herself, immigration fraud concerning her possible brother/husband, running for political office under a false name and false pretense as a possible illegal immigrant, etc. Time will tell us what is really happening.
Wake me when the shuttle lands.
