A dark chapter in the family history of Minnesota Democratic Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan has made its way into the race, but it is unclear whether voters will hold the alleged sins of her long-dead grandfather against her.
Earlier this week, Alpha News revealed the troubled mental health history of Flanagan's grandfather, John Jacob Hartmann, supported by old newspaper accounts and court records. He spent decades in psychiatric custody, escaped twice and was suspected in multiple killings, though never charged.
The reporting comes just weeks before the midterm elections, in which Flanagan, the state's lieutenant governor, faces former television sports reporter Michelle Tafoya in a race to fill the seat of Democrat Tina Smith, who is retiring.
Neither Flanagan nor Tafoya has commented publicly on the matter since the decades-old allegations resurfaced. But the bizarre development has generated a buzz on social media.
Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet highlighted the "violent mental illness in Minnesota Democrat Peggy Flanagan's family," in an X post, followed by a photo of Flanagan wearing a shirt that says "Protect trans kids." and Dustin Grage, a columnist with Town Hall, wrote the report "adds up."
Flanagan has frequently spoken about her upbringing, including being raised by a single mother who relied on SNAP benefits and housing assistance, and the influence of her indigenous father, a tribal land rights activist who helped inspire her own advocacy for Native American communities.

Nobody alive today has a grandfather who owned slaves in the US. You have to go back a bit farther than that.

My great grandfather fought in the Union Army. He did not own slaves.
This is no defense of Flanagan, who no doubt has her own issues but, after reading the article, I don’t know how what her grandfather did is relevant here.
Years ago, in doing some family history research, I was looking at the 1940 Census and found a great-grandmother in residence at the state mental hospital. No one in the family had ever mentioned that. I asked my father about it and he said that she did have some mental problems (he couldn’t say what they were) which made a difficult life for my great-grandfather. So there it is — but I can’t tell that her problems ever affected anyone else in the family. She painted a pretty nice scene of a deer in a mountain forest that has become kind of a family heirloom. I found out that she had painted it when she was in the mental hospital. That’s the only legacy of her mental illness that we have.
Flanagan is already crazy.
So coming from a crazy family is no surprise.
Well, she’s a nuts as they come, so it must run all through the family tree.
Anyone voting for this psycho should be committed, before they do something to harm someone else.

Minnesota Dept of Human Services (DHS) is investigating "Milestone Development Center" an autism facility operated by Somali Nimco Ahmed, a long-time friend of Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan now running for the US Senate. Somali Nimco Ahmed is under an open Medicaid fraud probe.
Specific Allegations include:

Corporate and Medicaid billing records found that more than 82% of autism therapy vendors in the state were operated by individuals of Somali origins.
85 autism centers have been placed under active state and federal investigation by the FBI and the Minnesota Dept of Human Services following allegations of widespread billing fraud and other fraudulent practices.

Lt Gov Peggy Flanagan bestowed an “Outstanding Refugee” award
to a Somali fraudster who was behind a $5.7 million tax dollar theft
Minnesota Lt Gov Peggy Flanagan-——Democrats’ 2026 nominee for Minnesota’s open Senate seat———is under renewed scrutiny, after the Washington Reporter uncovered disturbing details about state awards given to a fraudster.
In 2021, Flanagan’s Dept of Human Services (DHS) awarded an “Outstanding Refugee” entrepreneurship award to a fraudster who ripped off taxpayers to the tune of $5.7 million.
In 2021, Ayan Farah Abukar, was awarded an “Entrepreneurship Award, which recognizes outstanding individuals who contribute to their communities in business, the arts or education,” a ritual organized exclusively by Flanagan’s govt office.
More egregiously, since being awarded, Abukar has also been charged in connection with the massive $250 million “Feeding Our Future” scandal.
While many revelations about Abukar emerged after she won Minnesota’s award, Flanagan gave her the honor despite the fact that Minnesota’s Department of Human Services had already revoked her child care license for “providing false and misleading information.”
Abukar has since pled guilty to wire fraud.

A 2022 report by the Minnesota Reformer poses problems for candidate Flanagan, given the timeline.
“Even as Flannagan powered the state to laud “her service to the community,” Abukar’s “nonprofit” was fraudulently claiming a whopping impossibility——feeding 6,400 children per day, multiple times per day. Abukar cunningly hid her theft by using a fraud-riddled federal child nutrition program,” the Reformer found.

Despite the trail of red flags surrounding the non-profit and its leadership, Democrat Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan turned a blind eye, blithely handing out accolades to fraudsters-——actions she coldly calculated would get her votes.
“As federal investigators continue to unravel the largest Somali govt fraud schemes in the nation, Minnesota taxpayers are left asking a simple question: “How many more ‘outstanding awards’ will Flanagan hand out to federal thieves and convicts before someone is held accountable?”
Flanagan has sap-happily used Minnesota’s Somali community as surrogates on the campaign trail; Flanagan outrageously donned a Muslim hijab at a press conference in a show of solidarity with Somali fraudsters.
But Flanagan’s deep ties to Minnesota’s growing fraud crisis continue to multiply. Nimco Ahmedl, Flanagan’s friend of 25 years, was supporting hijab-clad Flannagan, standing close to her at a press conference. A pic of the two was widely circulated.
Nimco is now herself under active investigation for running fraudulent autism centers, stealing tax dollars for herself.
AND THIS——Senate candidate Flanagan fund-raised alongside the
state’s Medicaid medical director, who is engulfed in fraud oversight failures.
