The tiger seen mauling a man who had gotten inside the enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park has survived, say police.
Shocking footage has emerged of a man inside the enclosure at the Doncaster attraction and the tiger, visibly disturbed by his presence, attacking the man who is seen shouting at the animal to stay back. The popular wildlife park will remain closed throughout today and the rest of tomorrow.
Visitors reported hearing gunshots as they were ordered to leave the park shortly after 1.35pm. The speculation prompted fears from the public that the animal had been shot dead to protect the man. South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that the man has suffered serious injuries as a result and they are working at pace to find the man's family.

No, the tiger was not killed. According to South Yorkshire Police, the animal remained uninjured and stayed inside its enclosure following the incident.
Police dispelled rumors circulating on social media that the tiger had been shot or destroyed, confirming there is no wider risk to the public. While witnesses reported hearing shots, these were understood to be gas canisters used to frighten the animal away from the victim.
Drugs or alcohol or a combination are likely.
DONCASTER, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 10, 2026
A horrifying tragedy unfolded Saturday afternoon at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in South Yorkshire, England, after a man entered a tiger enclosure and was fatally attacked by one of the animals.
According to South Yorkshire Police, emergency services were called to the park at approximately 1:35 p.m. local time following reports that a man had entered the park’s Land of the Tigers enclosure.
The tiger attacked him, causing catastrophic injuries. Despite the response of emergency personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
ACCORDING TO EYE WITNESS REPORTS, THE MAN CLIMBED A BARRIER BEFORE ENTERING THE TIGER ENCLOSURE.
Witnesses described seeing the man climb over a safety barrier before entering the area where the tigers were housed. Some witnesses reportedly described the man as appearing agitated before the incident.
One particularly disturbing account, published by The Sun, described the tiger grabbing the man by his neck and dragging him. Another witness reportedly heard the victim calling for help as the attack unfolded.
Other visitors reported hearing loud bangs during the emergency, with some believing they were warning shots or deterrents intended to distract the tiger.
Police have confirmed that the tiger was not injured and remained secured inside its enclosure. There was no wider danger to the public.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service reportedly received its emergency call at approximately 1:33 p.m. Two ambulances, an air ambulance, and a doctor responded.
Park staff activated emergency procedures while visitors were moved away from the area. Witnesses described sections of the enclosure being screened off, and the wildlife park was subsequently evacuated.
Despite those efforts, the man could not be saved.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park announced it would remain closed on Sunday, October 11, while authorities investigated.
The Land of the Tigers exhibit houses Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers. These are among the largest living wild cats in the world.
The habitat opened in 2011 and includes a large outdoor enclosure with woodland, grassland, and a waterfall pool. Visitors ordinarily observe the animals from designated viewing areas separated from the enclosure by safety barriers.
Among the park’s known tigers are Tschuna, a female who arrived in 2013, and Altai, a male who arrived from Norway in 2025. Authorities have not officially established which tiger was responsible for the attack.
The tiger reportedly remains alive and unharmed.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park expressed profound sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s loved ones.

Who is alive, the tiger or the 👨
The tiger was where he should be. The man was not. He apparently jumped in. Evolution in action.
Another tragic suicide-by-tiger.
If it was drugs, I hope it wasn’t enough to hurt the tiger.
Most tigers only speak Hindi, but a few have picked up a smattering of Urdu.
The idiot human made choices, but the tiger runs on instinct—tiger did what tigers do.
