I was reading the post and comments concerning Zach Bryan - about him wearing the Free Palestine t-shirt. My thoughts once again strayed to what were these people like back in high school. Were they the ones that joined the Drama clubs, Glee clubs? Were they the ones that were in their own little 2-3 person clique? Were they the ones that looked down on the other students as beneath them, not "educated" like them?
Watch the Seinfeld episode about the AIDS ribbon. It will explain everything.
I never heard of it but then again, I was in junior and high school in the early 70’s in Staunton, Virginia. Not too many Hispanics there at the time. Thank you for the information. I learned something today.
I don’t remember any of that type when I was in high school(a LONG time ago) but there were some who definitely seemed anti-social. Never figured out what they “were”.
“Be cool or be cast out.”
Striving to re-define “cool” I made it a point to wear the near-timeless uniform of jeans, T-shirt and flannel shirt over that when it was cold, with good quality tennis shoes more practical than flashy. This avoidance of clique made me approachable by everyone who wanted to without all that caste and social strata crap most people go along with to hide their insecurity.
That advice about standing up to bullies is absolutely true. Inflicting serious injuries to idiots soon makes the rest of them take a path around you from then on.
Sure. They had a big banner on the wall opposite to the doors of the Student Lounge, and I remember wondering what the heck “Venceremos” was all about.
Thomas Mann referred to the artist as trickster. Much like watching a magician, most of us enjoy being misled for entertainment purposes. I enjoy the music of these art student turned musicians but I certainly don’t look to them for life advice or political guidance.
