A magnitude 4.3 earthquake has struck Washington’s Puget Sound region, with shaking reported in the Seattle area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and residents. People in the area described a sudden jolt.
The earthquake struck at 2:05 p.m. local time on Tuesday, with its epicenter about 3 miles west-northwest of Wauna, Washington, according to the USGS. It occurred at a depth of about 17 miles.
The Seattle area faces earthquake risks from faults beneath Puget Sound and the Cascadia subduction zone offshore, where an oceanic tectonic plate pushes beneath North America.

Never felt a thing here on the Olympic Peninsula.
4.3 a baby quake . On July 28th we had a 7 here in Kumamoto , Japan and we live in the epicenter . It was 10 years ago when we got hit by a 6+ and a 7 within 18 hours .
Ruh roh, Shaggy.
Not big enough. Need more than double that strong there.
Oops, sorry. Didn’t see your post.
Mt. St. Helens acting up?
You’re right. We’ve got several huge fault lines and volcanic plates that are moving around in and around North America.
A bad one would be the New Madrid which would cut our country in half. Lots of people along the rivers. It hasn’t slipped since the early 1800s.
Yellowstone Caldera? If that goes, we won’t survive anyway, so why worry?
West Coast? Cascadia and Juan de Fuca is a huge risk. Many of the Cascade Mountains are still mildly active.
San Andreas is being quiet for decades, still moving, but slowly. Politely.
The Mount St. Helens eruption in the spring of 1980 is something I lived through. Magnificent Nature. Destructive.
When God moves the earth, there really isn’t anything you can do.
I was born and raised there and prided myself on what was where ... but Wauna? If they wanted people to know where it was they should have said 3.5 miles due west of Purdy ... where the State Correctional Facility for Women is. Could that make this a MILKSHAKE?
Yes. What an earthquake feels like depends on a number of factors. Thank you for explaining this to the folks who wouldn’t be aware of it.
No. Put down the drugs. No earthquake.
I bounced through the Sylmar quake, Whittier, and the big one, Northridge. I start heading for the door at 5.5, but 4.3 wouldn’t wake me up.
In 1972 I Lived in Northern Illinois. At about midnight some plates rattled on a shelf and I thought it was just a truck passing. Next morning I found out it was a 4.1 quake in Kankakee Illinois. Everyone had been asleep so no one really noticed.
Didn’t feel it in Bothell either though I might have been preoccupied with work.
We ordinarily never have quakes where I live in the Midwest, but after reading the accounts of this one.....I live on a street with fairly heavy traffic & some of that is heavy trucks. One of them can shake the house a litle. It is not bothersome.
We felt the earthquake, looked at each other, and laughed.
It was a little bit of CA!
For 4s, we wait to see if it builds. It takes a high 5 to make me stand up.
True enough.
