California Gov. Gavin Newsom was spotted rubbing elbows with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars in Malibu Friday night as the drama over Paramount’s merger battle dragged on.
Newsom was seen leaving the hot spot restaurant Nobu along along with actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Tobey Maguire.
De Niro co-owns the iconic Japanese spot, where the actors sat down for dinner with the governor, according to TMZ.
De Niro has been one of President Trump’s fiercest celebrity critics, urging Americans to “resist, resist, resist” during a podcast interview in February.
He has also praised Newsom for his confrontational approach to the president on social media. De Niro endorsed Kamala Harris for president in 2024.
The star-studded outing came amid questions over Paramount potentially leaving the state over a legal battle regarding the company’s planned $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and 11 other state attorneys general sued to block the deal over antitrust concerns.
Paramount CEO David Ellison has threatened to move the studio out of the Golden State if the dispute is not resolved, raising concerns about the potential loss of thousands of entertainment jobs.

overpriced IMHO ($135-200/person for dinner).
Well, you’re paying for the “name”......
and the knife skills of the Japanese chefs honed over time.
Yeah......Thunderball (1965) featured a prominent upscale restaurant and casino called the Café Martinique.......the location is fictionalized in the story as being in Nassau, but the scenes were physically filmed at the real Café Martinique on Paradise Island in the Bahamas—not the actual Caribbean island of Martinique.
The Ocean Club restaurant at the Four Seasons was great.
Also expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Plus the color of the water in front is so turquoise you almost think it is AI.
I loved Italy....... where you drink more wine than water.

I get it. It’s just personally not worth it for me. I prefer cooking when I can, or eating something innocuous (like the bean salad, humus, and flatbread crackers I had for dinner’). I used to love eating dinner out, but it’s just lost its appeal for me - starting in part during Covid when I got food poisoning after ordering out from a restaurant I used to like. I think a lot of restaurants pushed the limits on ‘food freshness’ back then as they were really feeling it financially.
Anyway, I’m becoming more and more a food minimalist, and just want simple and fresh. I’ve lived in cities much of my life, but I would love to have a small farm and eat what I grow. Life has just become too complex in many ways.
For me it was Lemon Chello spritzers.

Later in the lobby he goes up to the bar and orders a Martini.

anyone running against Newsom for any office at all... need only take some video clips of the streets of Los Angeles what with all the filth, trash, beggars, winos, drunks and “street people”...and the empty resevoirs ... and the “bullet train to nowhere” giant graft machine
and broadcast the videos with the question: “do you want YOUR community to look like THIS!?”
Newsom couldn’t win a race for dog catcher anywhere outside o his corrupt-election home state
