Deprivation of rights under color of law is not used nearly enough.
There is no expectation of privacy in public. But on the other hand, the Flock system is open to all kinds of abuse, as shown in this article.
A good compromise might have been to require a warrant for a cop to view a Flock video. But it’s too late now. Cops like the ones in the article have destroyed any public trust in the system.
And further, misuse of the Flock system was the least of the problems here.

We are gonna continue to see stories like this. The system is spreading and it is getting more invasive.
Call it the Zuckerberg model.
I see Flock being very useful if and only if every one who accesses it has to log in personally and state the reason for the access. No anonymous access to just anyone in the department.
Also needs to be a regular audit of usage by a civilian board.
And I don't think the "save the children" logic is a trivial thing.
they have had traffic surveillance cameras out for over 30 years. And just the last year or so they, someone, started calling them Flock cameras. They did the same damned thing to people 5... 10.... 15 years ago!! Where were all you tin foil hat dudes then!!

The guy did nothing wrong!! He was tracked with a “Flock Cameras” and it was found HE STILL DID NOTHING WRONG!!

Definitely not a fan of flock cameras, but arguing that something should be banned because sometimes it is abused, would be no different than defunding all cops, because some cops are bad.
Heavy penalties and jail when appropriate for abusers would help solve both problems.

I’d say the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office is in a world of hurt over this whole set of incidents, and IF they were smart, they’d settle this thing out of court for big bucks or risk a likely adjudicated court ordered settlement of MUCH BIGGER bucks ... in any case, the Seriff needs to be ousted one way or another, and the cops that did all of this fired pronto ...

Flock is a great aid to battling crime and we are going to lose it because law enforcement folks can not control their urges to us it illegally.
