Colorado to constituents -- no guns for you - Colorado leftists attempt an end run around the 2nd Amendment.

Like the cuckoo bird who lays its eggs in other birds’ nests, Colorado’s leftward lurch began some 20 or so years ago and has accelerated steadily ever since, fueled by disaffected cuckoo birds from California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and other assorted pockets of liberal mania, who laid their eggs liberally across their newly usurped state.

To be fair, several formerly conservative states have suffered this fate to varying degrees, but Coloradan transplants have transformed the state with a vengeance. For example, in the 2020 national election, Proposition 115 would have “prohibited abortions in Colorado beyond 22 weeks, the average point of fetal viability, except in cases to protect the life of the mother.” That measure lost by 18 points, so Colorado remains one of only seven states where abortions remain legal up until the moment of birth.

But nothing epitomizes Colorado’s proud, progressive creds like SB25-003 -- the sweeping gun control law that hit the ground on August 1, 2026.

In the early 1980s one could drive a bit outside of Denver towards the hills and pass speed limit signs adorned with bullet holes. Now, however, SB25-003 prohibits

activity involving semiautomatic firearms, and, in connection therewith, prohibiting the manufacture, distribution, transfer, sale, and purchase of specified semiautomatic firearms, classifying a device that increases the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm as a dangerous weapon, and making an appropriation.

Specifically, “[T]he act defines a "specified semiautomatic firearm" as a semiautomatic rifle or semiautomatic shotgun with a detachable magazine or a gas-operated semiautomatic handgun with a detachable magazine (emphasis added).”

This bill does not represent an outright ban; gosh, that might violate the 2nd Amendment. Rather, there is now a permit-to-purchase process that law-abiding Coloradans must complete before buying a restricted firearm, the mechanics of which are outlined by

I had the good fortune and timing to renew my CCW in May last year just before the new requirements kicked in last June. I'm covered for the next five year plan from Denver.

As I understand it, renewing a CCW/CHP requires an entire bio metric profile including fingerprints, eye scan, and accidental DNA.

THIS IS WHAT WE DID WITH CAPTURED TERRORISTS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN. Full biometric profile, into a database.

Wow. I bought my first .22 rifle at a hardware store in Conroe, Texas at age 16. Walked in, bought the rifle and a box of ammo and walked out.

And then there's the part that Circle City pointed out:

"It is also a delayed confiscation law. Transfers are prohibited. That means when a current owner dies the gun must be destroyed or turned in to the police."

Which is outright theft and an abomination similar to "Our rights are granted by the government, not given by God".

Must be nice in them thar gated communities with private security.

I'll bet that took a little time to save up for. We used to pitch in a nickel each for a little box of 22. The fifty round box cost thirty cent.

Previous laws grandfathered owners of of magazines holding more than 15-round magazines and semi-auto pistols and rifles. Owned before 2013.

The new laws eliminate the ‘Grandfather’ clause. No one in the state is legally able to possess a magazine that can hold more than 15 rounds. Pistol or rifle.

Anyone caught with a magazine that holds holds over 15 rounds is subject to arrest.

When they passed the law, “they said we were grandfathered”

Not so. The goal posts move.

If I gift my 14 year old niece an AR and a few standard capacity magazines, it is highly illegal under state laws.

Transferring a rifle, possession of 'bad' magazines, under 21 years old. All illegal.

I'm getting a little tired of my rights being infringed.
