Walmart Under Weighs Its Bacon

Earlier I posted about Kroger short-weighing a package of chicken I bought. Jimmy Wrigg has a number of videos about Walmart short weighing beef and chicken. Well, he's back and the prepackage bacon 1lb packages are a much as 2.5oz short of the required 16oz target. Evidently, the FDA allows a 1oz variation, but that should be randomly distributed if it's truly and error, with some packages with more that 16oz and some within 1oz less. Jimmy has yet to find one that's over by an ounce.

Solution: weigh the package before you buy it.

I buy my meat direct from local farmers who pasture-raise their animals. Who knows the source of Wallmart’s meat?

They are notorious for beating a vendor down to the point he is not making any money.

Yep, true statement.

They beat them down so much, that the vendor eventually has to invest in foreign producers to maintain a slight profit margin.

Also, conservative economic ideologues (mainly academic think tank people) have been cheerleading this reliance on foreign producers for decades.

Their prices are lower if you’re getting the full measure of what you’re buying. If not, you need to compare the real weight to the alternatives.

What brand was he checking? You know the Chinese bought Smithfiled which is produces about 25% of the pork products. I still say that your targeting of Walmart is the wtrong target, bcause they are not the ones packaging the product. If you want to go after the culprit, then go after the actual producer.

To do the study accurately, you need to buy the same product at different supermarkets.

Walmart can not double-check these producers. They do not have the time nor the resources tyo checl the weights of products.

I mean you are already complaining about the price ssue baeed upon the weight. If you want to correct the problem, then ityhe problem needs to be identified by the thre original source, not where the product is bought when they clearly are not packaging the products tyou are complaining about.

You also need to know how the [rpduct is designed to be weighed, and what is included or excluded when computing the weight.

That is the only fair way. If you think Walmart is cheating you, then refuse to shop there. That is your right.

But I am geting tired of this nation becoming a litigious nation, it is far more destructive, than it is constructive. It has als been a major cause of the rise price of things. Perhaps 10% is constructive, esecially when it comes to health issue concerens.

It doesn’t have to end up in court. With Kentucky Legend, Walmart brought the problem up to them, they recalled the product, and said it wouldn’t happen again. That’s what should happen. Having Walmart exert the pressure on Smithfield makes more sense than having individual customers do it. If enough customers complain to their local Walmart, they will assert pressure on Smithfield and I’ll bet things change.

I wouldn't buy Smithfield, now owned by China. But at least you now realize that Walmart was being unfairly targeted. Walmart is not a bad store. In fact it's a very good store, and this proves it. For they did what they themselves were not required to do.

Just remember there are people that hate Walmart. I was just setting the record straight, that it is not Walmart that should be the target, but Smithfiled, who produces the product & packages it. I used Smithield only because China owns it now, and they are know to be nothing but cheaters in everything they engage in. But apparently, you now say that it was Smithfield bacon that was engaging in the over weight scam involving their product. Perhpas now you understand why I dd so?

I agree. Kroger had a sale on Smithfield bacon 1lb for $3.99. However, mixed in with the 1lb packages were 12oz packages. I don’t think that should have been done, as I’m sure some people picked packages without looking. Great Value powdered sugar is also now under weight and the back of the package says Walmart owns it. I don’t think that’s true, but they need to check the quality control.
