eing labeled a cheater on the golf course is a black mark that’s virtually impossible to remove. Whether it’s a wild cheating scandal at Q School or someone fluffing their lie during a Saturday morning scramble, cheating in golf isn’t new.
But what happened recently at WingHaven Country Club near St. Louis rocked the local golf scene and is spreading after the culprit went on ESPN Radio in St. Louis to confess.

Okay—if playing a drunken round of goofy golf with friends and you do this—we all get a laugh—but really? Someone needed the applauds that much?
You can argue about where you place the ball after it fell into a water hole, but this was very deliberate falsehood, requiring a lot of planning. Hope his wife is checking his phone.

Just a guess. The fraudster had some serious financial problems and was willing to cheat members with a fake hole in one claim. My elderly dad a hole in one about a decade ago at his club. The payout was about $1K
Did he shoot a 70?
He also likely committed a crime by fraudulently trying to obtain the hole in one prize.
I’ve seen a couple folks get the perma-ban from Field Target. I just can’t fathom the mentality. Field Target is close as you’ll get to golf, with a rifle (pneumatic). In both I’m sure you’re participating with people who’ve put thousands of dollars into their kit, and thousands of hours/dollars into practice and matches. Hell I was participating in the Nationals where a dude got busted for cheating.
Your rep is trash after that, and the fallout can stick to one over a wide spectrum of life...
Reminds me of the joke where the preacher called in sick on Sunday morning and went to play golf. He got a hole-in-one on every hole. All the while St. Peter is complaining to God that he should be punished.
At the end God says “He will have his punishment. Who is he going to brag to?”
Ok... So we are supposed to believe, the drive supposedly that put this ball in the hole was not seen by anyone!!?? something doesnt smell right with this. he cheated, fine. but the story of the cheat doesnt hold water.
My father-in-law was a scratch golfer (I had no interest in it). When he was young he hit a hole in one, on a well known golf course in Amarillo, Texas. I have the newspaper clipping when he did it.
He was a great man, respected and loved him like my own father.
You wouldn’t believe the number of people caught cheating at fishing tournaments.
