WATCH: Insane Dashcam Video Shows Loose Tire Demolishing Car on Philadelphia Highway
The Gateway Pundit ^ | July 31, 2026 | Jordan Conradson

Dashcam video from a Tesla on Philadelphia's I-76 caught a horrifying moment on camera this week, when a tire barreling down the highway slammed headfirst into a moving car.

The tire is seen in one clip bouncing down the highway median before hitting a Nissan SUV in the left lane.

The car's hood was smashed in, and the impact shattered its windshield.

The tire was launched straight into the air on the busy highway.

It is currently unclear where the tire came from.

It is also unknown whether anybody was injured in the wreck.

The incident happened just after noon near Girard Avenue in West Philadelphia.

The Tesla driver reportedly said he heard the crash, but did not know what had happened until he watched the footage later.

We saw a wheel come off a vehicle one time on I-10 east of Tallahassee. That wheel came off a trailer and SPED UP passed the vehicle, hit the median divide and launched into the air about 30 feet and flew across our side and landed in the grassy shoulder. Thank God no one was injured or cars damaged....................

I ride a motorcycle frequently, and have for 55 years. Loose bouncing wheels and the carcasses of poorly made and exploding retread truck tires are among my greatest fears. Nearly impossible to defend against. Poor truck maintenance is a hazard for all.

Many moons ago I was headed east on I-40 towards Knoxville and saw a tire detach from a semi truck in the opposing lanes. It came right at me across the median on a diagonal course. Fortunately I was young an immortal, and driving my '73 Mach 1 with 351 Police Interceptor engine, so I played a little chicken with it before it crossed my path with a few feet to spare.

Oh to be young again! YOLO!!!

Long time ago my Sis, lil bro, and myself were headed to the beach in SoCal in Sis’s VW bug when a tire - no rim - came down off the opposite side of the freeway (which was 10 feet higher in elevation) headed right for us. It bounced in front of us and went right over the bug.

On the way back we saw that the tire had ripped into a chain link fence and was stuck there.

This happened to me but luckily the tire fell over on its side just before impact.

Another time the car in front of me hit the jersey wall which ripped the left front wheel/tire off which flew over my car and crushed the pickup behind me.

I used to have to go find those when they come off like that. A good driver should have felt that before long it came off. It is one of a set of duals off a semi trailer. There was another one that went somewhere because that is the inside one, the outside one already came off earlier. see the shiny at the bolt face? That is because it has already running loose and chafing for quite aways. Someone did not fasten or tighten the lug nuts correctly and it got loose over time, sometimes they can go 50 miles before the finally come off like this. That trailer was vibrating like crazy for a long ways and the driver should have felt it and stopped and inspected it.

It's called the Schuylkill Expressway:

"Schuylkill Expressway is the section of Interstate 76 running through Philadelphia along the Schuylkill River, connecting Center City to the western suburbs and beyond. It's notorious for congestion that's earned it nicknames like the "Surekill Expressway" and "Sure-kill Distressway." The highway carries over 150,000 vehicles daily on a roadway built before modern highway standards and never adequately expanded. That foundation still shapes commuting patterns and development throughout the region."
https://philadelphia.wiki/a/Schuylkill_Expressway

Years ago, a famous Philadelphian named Joey Coyle , an unemployed longshoreman found $1.2 million in two canvas bags that had fallen from an armored truck in South Philly. After doing a lot of stupid things with the money, he was arrested trying to leave the country at JFK Airport in NY while carrying $105,000 stuffed into his boots. A jury found him not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. Hollywood made a movie about him in 1993, Money For Nothing. Hollywood, for the movie, decided to rename the Schuylkill Espressway as the "Schuylkill Freeway", which anyone who knows Philly knows is laughably wrong. Philadelphia has no freeways. Across the river in New Jersey is the North-South Freeway, but Philadelphia has no freeways, only expressways.

Also known as the Schuylkill Crawlway. It was gridlocked the day it opened in 1958, and hasn't improved since.
