President Donald Trump is marching full steam ahead in support of “absolutely incredible” data centers being built across the United States, and told Americans: “You’re becoming a utility.”
The remarks came during Trump’s roughly 20 minute remarks during a Thursday visit to Environmental Protection Agency’s headquarters in Washington D.C., during which he called data centers a “really important subject.”
“It is something that you’re very familiar with. The people in the room are real doers. It’s an amazing group,” Trump continued.
“We are here today to continue the incredible progress we are making in communities nationwide, to ensure that as new data centers go up, and they’re going up all over, electricity bills for American families will actually come down.”
“You’re going to be building your own data centers, and you’re going to build your own electric plants. You are essentially becoming a utility, like Con Edison in New York,” he added.
“But maybe at a level that nobody’s ever seen before, because we’ve seen some of the plants they’re building are absolutely incredible. They’re absolutely incredible,” the president said.
“Electric plants, electric manufacturing plants. It’s hard to believe, but you need double the electricity that we have right now, maybe even more than that to really fulfill what you want to do.”
“We’re leading China by a lot, and using our old grid would not have worked. I came up with the idea: build your own plant. Nobody can complain. You won’t call me and say what a terrible job I’m doing because we have a 200-year-old grid that’s not the best in the world,” Trump also said.
“You look at some places. Take a look at California; they have brownouts and blackouts every weekend. The last thing they are going to be able to do is supply electric at numbers. Nobody has ever explained to me why it’s so much electricity, why you need so much. Nor did I care that much, to be honest with you.”
The president’s data center push comes as Americans are increasingly against construction of the facilities.
A poll by Emerson College published this week found 63% of voters in the U.S. oppose the centers being built in their communities; opponents often cite environmental concerns as a major reason why. The poll was conducted July 19 and 20.
maybe because the Reps dont support his agenda?
Because local surveillance state overlords are more efficient! /s?
Why is there this great need for data centers?
The internet has been functioning for decades, without these data centers.
We keep hearing how data centers use power and water and will cause shortages of both in cities and towns where they locate.
I don’t know enough about this subject to have an opinion on data centers. I really don’t know why they are needed for the functioning of the internet, if the internet has been functioning all this time without them.
I have yet to hear anyone explain why we need data centers.
I also haven’t heard any positives, just negatives. Do these places create jobs? So that a data center could be a beneficial business to have in a city? Or is there only a downside to having data centers?
Wait until they dry up all the water supplies.
I think Eastern Oregon is growing the number of data centers also. Lots of open space and less commies.
Here is what my hub told me...
Data centers are re-using water....so the water issue is going away.
They are also creating their own energy...ie, natural gas turbine engines (Elon bought a whole company).
Data centers will power AI growth....
That is all I know...
We need them to make funny memes and ai videos,
I have seen and heard the Turbines of these crypto center .
Its a nightmare if you live near where they dropped one .
In NC, an entire GOP Nc county board was voted out over the
noise and water mess created by the center and in fact China was found to be involved .
the crypto center is quickly being revamped to quiet the racket and foreign links removed.
.
Your billionaire Golf pals should be exposed too.
Donnie let’s build a data center turbines next to your palace.
Lead by example
Bingo
Lets put one next his first wife Ivana grave in the ruff at Bedminster.
Thinking Trump is going to destroy the nation with these Datacenters and get rich off the misery from it... People HATE them...
POWER BILLS MAY COME DOWN SO?ME TIME IN THE FUTURE-—BUT SO WILL AVAILABLE WATER IN ARID AREAS.
MY ENTIRE VALLEY LIVES ON PRIVATE WELLS ON AN AQUIFER.
LOCAL DATA CENTERS ARE DEMANDING 1 MILLION GALLONS OF WATER FOR “COOLING”.
THAT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE HERE. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
MUST BE A SECRET== IN ALL LOCAL DISCUSSIONS-—NEVER MENTIONED.
He’s going to leave us with President AOC and rolling blackouts.
DATA CENTERS ARE USING CHEMICALS IN THE COOLING TO “PROTECT THEIR PIPING SYSTEMS”.
WHEN THEY NEED TO REMOVE & REPLACE WITH “FRESH SUPPLIES”, THEY ARE DUMPING THAT CONTAMINATED WATER BACK INTO OU LOCAL AQUIFER.
HOW MANY CYCLES OF SUCH CAN HAPPEN BEFORE THE AQUIFER IS CONTAMINATED FOR HUMAN/LIVESTOCK USAGE.
WE ARE BEING STONEWALLED OVER THOSE ANSWERS.
DATA CENTERS FORCING LOCAL POLITICIANS TO SIGN “DNA’S” IS A SURE SIGN OF SERIOUS MISCHIEF.
NIMBY folks.
Correct. They want the services but let someplace else do the work. How do they think their handheld computers get information?
They also hate electric lines near them or water treatment plants.
They lie about them too. Water? More water is used by golf courses. What about the gazillion swimming pools?
They whine about water usage taking selfies on a beach.
There are thousands of them and growing.
👍
Poor you.
