Political parties tend to harshly reject the idea that they are a threat to the constitutional order, but the Democratic Socialists of America are making it part of their brand.
The DSA has released a new program that, besides contemplating the advent of a classless society, calls for abolishing the US Senate, the presidency, and the Supreme Court.
This is literally a revolutionary program to topple the American system as we have known it since 1789.
It’s the kind of thing you might expect after angry rebels mount the barricades in Washington, DC, and overthrow the government.
It makes proposals to abolish the filibuster seem trifling in comparison, and even court-packing look relatively moderate.
The proposal to kill off the world’s greatest deliberative body has gotten the most attention.
The DSA’s co-chair, Gustavo Gordillo, went on Fox News to explain that the Senate is “undemocratic,” while Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has said that she opposes the filibuster and elements of the Senate that “were founded on Jim Crow.”
Contra Gordillo, the Senate is a democratic institution; no one wins a Senate seat without getting more votes than his or her opponent.
Yet, part of its role in our system is to serve as a check on popular passions.

We need to expel this foreigner, who has the temerity to come here and seek to destroy our Constitution with Communism. Even if he is too stupid to know it, his stated political program would lead to Stalinism and global disaster. May he grab the hot leg of a 480 volt service while standing in a deep puddle, soon.

Notice how many of these DSA types are Third World Immigrants. The Magic Dirt of the USA didn’t automatically transform them into Constitution-loving Americans, did it? On the contrary, they arrive here hating this country and working to transform it. Isn’t it time to shut down immigration?

When the news shows clips of the ranting and screeching socialists and the cheering clapping seals in their audiences, I feel a strong memory of 1968 and similar years coming over me.
When people in their teens and twenties wanted to overthrow “the Establishment” some few said: “We’ll go only so far and then it will take time for some of us to get older and take over the power in the government and businesses and then we can overthrow the old order.”
I remember that and as the hippies and SDS types did exactly that I dread the all out battle we need to thwart them from taking our beloved American Way of Life away from us.
We won’t give up without the battle of our lives.
This is important.
Someone on a talk radio show said the Soviets, the Mao Chinese and others as well as Hitler did NOT have a majority.
All the communists now need in the US is a vocal and energetic minority. They can take over places where people are too lazy to vote or where they pick on one thing wrong with Trump and so on.
The talk of what percentage they have had in blue cities like NYC or others is not relevant. The Left can take power with a determined minority.

LOL, yeah I was thinking the same. It may have been true in the 1800s, but certainly not today.
Then people who can need to get ready and start fighting back. The bad news is that those primary winners in NYC and Colorado, and probably some other ones, are on their way to Congress. The good news is that some establishment Democrats are starting to get alarmed and are speaking out.
In any campaign, even where a Republican doesn’t have a chance of winning, the DSA candidates need to be made to own and defend the DSA platform. Hit them every day with the words of the DSA’s head person that their goal is communism. Some of my Democrat acquaintances believe that DSA is okay because it’s “democratic” and that we already have some socialism because we have government-funded highways and public schools and Medicare and Medicaid and subsidized childcare, and democratic socialism will give us more cool and useful stuff like that. That is not what DSA is about.
Hit DSA with that, along with how most of their candidates (at least the ones I am aware of) are people of little life experience and serious accomplishment and are low-grade individuals who can’t be allowed anywhere near positions of public responsibility. Hit them with how their anti-Israel/anti-zionist rhetoric is thinly-veiled antisemitism. I have seen plenty of discussions on social media that move from how bad Israel is to how bad Jews are in general.
And if that doesn’t work, then we’ll have to have a plan B.

I hope they are true believers and are willing to die for the cause. Kill a commie for mommie!

I realized that I had fixated on the number 17 and misspoke.
It was 1913, not 1917.
That was a bad year for the Constitution, and America.
We got the income tax and the Federal Reserve that year, too.
Probably too late to do anything about any of this now,
Still, it’s important to ponder how it all came about and how we arrived in our current state of chaos.
