Mike Johnson Breaks With Trump On Iran War: ‘We’ve Got To Wrap It Up’
Mediaite ^ | July 21, 2026 | Alex Griffing

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was asked during a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday at what point he will move to use Congressional power to check President Donald Trump’s war in Iran. Johnson pointedly ended his reply by saying “we’ve got to wrap it up” in Iran, which many pundits and political insiders have warned is an additional threat to the GOP keeping its majorities in Congress.

Johnson’s answer appeared to be at odds with Trump, who vowed earlier in the day to continue bombing Iran until they come to the negotiating table in good faith.

“You repeatedly said that you trust the administration to handle the war with Iran. We’re now five months in, and the U.S. troop toll has surpassed that of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Given that, at what point are you willing to put an AUMF on the floor, or vote for a War Powers Act resolution to try and remove it?” asked an off-camera reporter.

“The administration is working very hard — the commander-in-chief and the whole Department of War — they’re working very hard to bring this to a resolution. There’s a lot of discussion about how that will be done. We’re all closely watching those developments, of course. I don’t think an AUMF is in order right now. I think we need to bring it to a resolution,” Johnson replied, adding:

"Look, I think it’s important — in my personal view — for all of our international partners to have a role in this. I mean, we’ve got all of our allied nations, NATO, we’ve had the Arab countries over there, the Gulf states that are in closest proximity to Iran. Iran has now fired on all of its neighbors, and they’re turning everybody in the world into an enemy. So I think this is an important moment in history for the entire world community to decide how they want to handle this. It shouldn’t just be America’s obligation — my view is that everybody needs to play a role. So we’ll see how that develops. I think we have to allow the space to do that.

"And I know this administration is working around the clock to resolve that in a way so they don’t suffer any more troop losses. This is a great tragedy — it shouldn’t happen. But it is a very important objective, one that I believe we’ve achieved, to ensure that the largest state sponsor of terrorism does not have a nuclear weapon. That would be a disaster for everybody, and everybody around the world understands that.

"Now we’ve got to wrap it up."

It’s very easy to parrot pro-Trump talking points. But when it really matters, Ingraham behaves exactly like a closet globalist:

“Fox News host Laura Ingraham lamented a report that President Donald Trump was considering making a deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping to allow China to build factories in the U.S., quoting the article saying the president was ‘on verge of making [a] massive error.’”

Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, disputed the idea that Iran was close to getting nukes. The idea that Iran would use a nuke as soon as they got one is also questionable. We still have a large nuclear deterrent that would dissuade them from doing so, even if that were their goal. It’s certainly true that the “mad mullahs” don’t like us, but just how mad they are and just how much power they actually have are things assumed, rather than proved.

Officially 99% of the Iranian population is Shiite Muslim. That’s exaggerated, but we like to believe that the people of every country we go to war with is just dying for us to liberate them. That hasn’t been the case most of the time.

Tulsi Gabbard stated that Iran could produce a nuclear weapon “within weeks to months. She also said that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile was unprecedented for a non-nuclear state.

Maybe she just doesn’t trust China. It seems like both sides in that debate could be described as “globalist.”

Maybe in her 2025 testimony. I think her 2026 testimony was different.

“In another apparent contradiction of recent statements by Trump and other administration officials about the threat posed by Iran, Gabbard’s written testimony, posted on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s website, said that “Iran’s nuclear enrichment program was obliterated” by U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on its nuclear facilities in June 2025, and that there have been “no efforts since then to try to rebuild their enrichment capability.” However, Gabbard skipped that portion of her written testimony when reading her remarks at the opening of the committee hearing. When asked by Sen. Mark Warner why she had skipped that passage, Gabbard said she was trying to save time.”

Actually you’re mistaken. A lot of Americans view Iran as a threat, and as a fanatical terrorist regime.

YOU don’t care about Iran and many agree with you. But not everyone.

The closest analogy is Kim Jong Un, and he's not even as fanatical as the Mullahs.

Funny you should mention that.

If Iran had had an effective nuclear deterrent prior to 2026, there's a better than even chance we'd have already photo ops between Trump and the late Ayatollah.

Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, disputed the idea that Iran was close to getting nukes.

Firstly, so? Secondly why?

I trust the "intelligence" community in the same way I trust Peter Strzok's FBI.

The "intelligence" community is very liberal, and they hate Trump, and they will not necessarily tell him the truth.

And why would she undermine Trump's claims?

The idea that Iran would use a nuke as soon as they got one is also questionable.

Only to people who don't know about them.

We still have a large nuclear deterrent that would dissuade them from doing so,

This is the most absolutely silly mistake you can make when trying to figure out what they are going to do.

Are you not aware that suicide bombers are a normal part of their regular warfare? And in the case of wiping out the infidels, they have Koranic verses telling them to do it! The "twelvers" will gladly give their lives to bring out the Mahdi.

You either don't believe they will follow their religion, or you don't know about it.

What would Christians do to bring about the Rapture? Well the "Mahdi" is their version of Jesus coming to kick @$$!

They will absolutely initiate the final war.

It’s certainly true that the “mad mullahs” don’t like us, but just how mad they are and just how much power they actually have are things assumed, rather than proved.

I guess i'm going to have to find you some information about the "twelvers." You are clearly not familiar with their existence or their ideas.

They are religious nuts, and they can't be reasoned with, or dissuaded. They have to be kept away from nukes, because they will absolutely use them. They will see it as their necessary religious duty.

"The presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from 2005 to 2013 brought Mahdist political theology to an unusual level of public prominence, and in doing so generated significant controversy within the Iranian system itself. Ahmadinejad and his circle promoted what might be called a theology of active imminence -- the belief that the Imam's return was not merely a distant eschatological hope but a near-term political reality that Iranian policy should actively seek to accelerate."

There is a better than even chance that millions and perhaps hundreds of millions of people would be dead.

I find it hard to believe that so many people do not understand the religion of the Iranian leadership.

Clearly I hit a nerve.

Foreigner Firsters are the domestic enemy that Washington directly warned about. He saw you creeps coming from over two hundred years away.

Just go to your favorite foreign country and leave Americans alone.

It is not my war. Iran has been at war with the U.S. since Feb 14, 1979 when they took over the U.S. Embassy the first time. I was there at the time. The Revolutionary Guard occupied our compound for four months. Complete humiliation that set the stage for the Nov 4 takeover. The Iranians and their surrogates have been attacking and killing Americans for the past 47 years.

Regime change is what is needed. The mullahs hijacked the Iranian Revolution and have oppressed the Iranian people ever since. They are the still the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. Trump is doing the right thing even if it means losing the midterms.

Yep. President Trump currently has 83% approval rating with his own party. Beats out Bush and Obama with party approval.
