House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was asked during a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday at what point he will move to use Congressional power to check President Donald Trump’s war in Iran. Johnson pointedly ended his reply by saying “we’ve got to wrap it up” in Iran, which many pundits and political insiders have warned is an additional threat to the GOP keeping its majorities in Congress.
Johnson’s answer appeared to be at odds with Trump, who vowed earlier in the day to continue bombing Iran until they come to the negotiating table in good faith.
“You repeatedly said that you trust the administration to handle the war with Iran. We’re now five months in, and the U.S. troop toll has surpassed that of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Given that, at what point are you willing to put an AUMF on the floor, or vote for a War Powers Act resolution to try and remove it?” asked an off-camera reporter.
“The administration is working very hard — the commander-in-chief and the whole Department of War — they’re working very hard to bring this to a resolution. There’s a lot of discussion about how that will be done. We’re all closely watching those developments, of course. I don’t think an AUMF is in order right now. I think we need to bring it to a resolution,” Johnson replied, adding:
"Look, I think it’s important — in my personal view — for all of our international partners to have a role in this. I mean, we’ve got all of our allied nations, NATO, we’ve had the Arab countries over there, the Gulf states that are in closest proximity to Iran. Iran has now fired on all of its neighbors, and they’re turning everybody in the world into an enemy. So I think this is an important moment in history for the entire world community to decide how they want to handle this. It shouldn’t just be America’s obligation — my view is that everybody needs to play a role. So we’ll see how that develops. I think we have to allow the space to do that.
"And I know this administration is working around the clock to resolve that in a way so they don’t suffer any more troop losses. This is a great tragedy — it shouldn’t happen. But it is a very important objective, one that I believe we’ve achieved, to ensure that the largest state sponsor of terrorism does not have a nuclear weapon. That would be a disaster for everybody, and everybody around the world understands that.

But Van Riper had other ideas. While blue force awaited his surrender he fired a massive salvo of missiles into the fleet to overwhelm their defenses and sank a bunch of ships, then came the drones .... well They didn't' have drones then but they had lots of small fast boats to get close and fire RPGs ... including possible kamikaze attacks ... started sinking blue more ships. To avoid being jammed or intercepted, Van Riper used signal lights and motorcycle couriers to dart around with the orders, and possibly used the speakers on mosque minarets to broadcast orders (can't confirm that one) .
Blue force watched helplessly as the blue fleet was sunk by day 2. They told the red commander that there were going to do it again and demanded he do it according to their expectations, provide them info on red force positions, and other things to put the battle on easy mode and immediately won and declared victory.
But that one Marine showed the Pentagon how a war with Iran would be run, and we're seeing it play out now. Drones stand-ins, decentralized command and control, the US chasing ghosts and raining fire around but not seeming to be able to decisively destroy their ability to fight. If only they had taken the lessons Van Riper showed them seriously.
What do you see as an alternative? The size of Iran has been scaring us away for 47 years, but religious nuts with nukes is not something the world can tolerate.
Israel and the Mossad “forgot” (/s) to tell Trump that “weakened” Iran and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have many friends——and would be supplied with military hardware, precursor chemicals, and logistical support by an international network involving state actors and foreign front companies, particularly from China, Russia, and localized proxies.
Intelligence indicates Chinese entities supply the IRGC with precursor chemicals (such as sodium perchlorate) for ballistic missile fuel and dual-use components for drone manufacturing.
Russia and Iran operate a self-reinforcing exchange, where Russia supplies military hardware, aviation parts, and technological support in return for Iranian-made drones.
The US Treasury’s “Office of Foreign Assets Control” tracks and sanctions foreign aviation, transport, and front companies operating out of jurisdictions like Hong Kong, Italy, and Nigeria that act as intermediaries to obscure IRGC procurement.
Even an idiot would notice the Iranian government appears stronger than ever.
It diverts massive domestic resources like food and oil revenues directly to the IRGC to sustain their fighting forces and domestic operations. In conflict zones like Syria, the IRGC sustains its logistical footprint and fighters through regional corridors managed by allied militias and covert transport firms.
Because they are irrational?
Nothing says traitor to our Constitution like a Foreigner Firster cheerleading an illegal war that wasn’t authorized by Congress because his favorite foreign country begged our President to start it and he was dumb enough to do it.

I've never heard any. I find it hilarious that people are accusing the guy who has been advocating war with Iran since 1979, and doubly so since the 1990s when they started enriching Uranium, of listening to "Propaganda."

I kid you not. When we were gearing up for the Gulf War, I said we were attacking the wrong Muslim Country! Our focus always should have been Iran.
You need to find out what sort of religious fanatics run that country. It ought to make your blood run cold. They are hard-core fanatics, and they will do whatever they think Allah wants them to do.
And what "Allah" wants them to do is kill infidels, by the millions if possible.

We are 47 years overdue at dealing with *OUR PROBLEM* which Carter created. Jews got nothing to do with it, other than that destroying Iran also helps them out.
But if you don't think Iran isn't going to try and nuke the "Great Satan", then you haven't been paying attention to Iran for the last 47 years.

Iran has close to 100 million people. We haven’t fought a war with so large a country since WWII. Consider how destructive that war was and what it took to bring Germany and Japan to their knees. Also consider the chaos that followed our Iraq War and the ultimate defeat that followed our Afghanistan involvement. Consider too, the long Iran-Iraq War that ended with a stalemate.

The fight is NOT with the Iranian people, who are not Muslim but have been subjugated by Muslim leaders. The fight is with the current Iranian government. I’d have thought anyone on FR would know that.

Johnson is right about “wrapping up” this stupid gamble, conducted with Israel with zero Congressional support or support among allies not named Israel.
It’s time to get commerce moving again and stability in the oil markets, while pushing the “nutty war hawks” to the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

True, but our current military campaign will not finish off the current government of Iran. That leads to two options that aren’t supported by the Administration, Congress, or the People of the United States.
1) A ground invasion to topple the Iranian government and install a government we like.(Zero support for this option.)
2) Destroy all Iranian infrastructure with conventional or nuclear weapons.( Even less support for this stupid option.)
What will happen, is what should’ve happened when “Mr Deal Maker” tore up the last deal.
“Sign another one and move forward.”
