House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was asked during a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday at what point he will move to use Congressional power to check President Donald Trump’s war in Iran. Johnson pointedly ended his reply by saying “we’ve got to wrap it up” in Iran, which many pundits and political insiders have warned is an additional threat to the GOP keeping its majorities in Congress.
Johnson’s answer appeared to be at odds with Trump, who vowed earlier in the day to continue bombing Iran until they come to the negotiating table in good faith.
“You repeatedly said that you trust the administration to handle the war with Iran. We’re now five months in, and the U.S. troop toll has surpassed that of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Given that, at what point are you willing to put an AUMF on the floor, or vote for a War Powers Act resolution to try and remove it?” asked an off-camera reporter.
“The administration is working very hard — the commander-in-chief and the whole Department of War — they’re working very hard to bring this to a resolution. There’s a lot of discussion about how that will be done. We’re all closely watching those developments, of course. I don’t think an AUMF is in order right now. I think we need to bring it to a resolution,” Johnson replied, adding:
"Look, I think it’s important — in my personal view — for all of our international partners to have a role in this. I mean, we’ve got all of our allied nations, NATO, we’ve had the Arab countries over there, the Gulf states that are in closest proximity to Iran. Iran has now fired on all of its neighbors, and they’re turning everybody in the world into an enemy. So I think this is an important moment in history for the entire world community to decide how they want to handle this. It shouldn’t just be America’s obligation — my view is that everybody needs to play a role. So we’ll see how that develops. I think we have to allow the space to do that.
"And I know this administration is working around the clock to resolve that in a way so they don’t suffer any more troop losses. This is a great tragedy — it shouldn’t happen. But it is a very important objective, one that I believe we’ve achieved, to ensure that the largest state sponsor of terrorism does not have a nuclear weapon. That would be a disaster for everybody, and everybody around the world understands that.

What is this "propaganda"? In 1979 I was standing on the docks where I worked contemplating going to war with Iran. All Carter had to do was get the fight started, and I was ready to join.
I learned everything I could at the time about the Iranian mullahs, their weird splinter offshoot of Islam, and their fanaticism. I realized back in the early 1980s that these people can never be allowed to have any significant military power, and I have advocated for destroying their ability to enrich Uranium when I first heard of it.
"Propaganda"? I never heard any. I was pushing for us to stomp sh*t out of Iran way before it became fashionable.
In the Gulf War, I said we are attacking the wrong Enemy. Saddam is just a two bit strong man, but Iran is ruled by religious fanatics who will do what they think their scriptures tell them to do.
Have you never had any contact with religious fanatics? Have you never been around people who believe something so deeply that they would gladly kill themselves if they thought God wanted it?
I've known crazy religious people all my life, and I know just how fervently people can believe something. The Iranian Mullahs will absolutely act on their religious beliefs.
You need to get a good scare from some religious people. I would avoid the religious Muslims, but we have plenty of Christian denominations that ought to scare the beejesus out of you.
Unfortunately, the arguments from people worried about this war are correct. The public really is a fickle beast, and if the economy is doing badly and gas prices are high, they will likely blame Republicans and vote for Democrats.
I don't like it, but these are the horns of the dilemma we are on.
Of the two choices, I will chose stopping Iran from getting nukes, even if it costs us the House and Senate.
The consequences are just too horrible to do otherwise.
Hopefully Trump will have "wrapped this up" before we actually have to get that choice.

This is correct. It is exactly what Biden did (stopping drilling all over the country) that caused that massive inflation strike.

Maybe they’re not stupid but are tired of voting Republican and never getting what they were promised, even the easy things like defunding the Department of Education, for which they only need a majority in the house.
Maybe the likelihood of being killed in traffic while going to vote is higher than the likelihood that the Republican Party will do what it promised.
That is a possibility that I have considered. The Democrats winning control will be almost as bad as a nuclear exchange.
I think this is why it is so urgent that we destroy Iran right now. We hurt them so bad they cannot make a nuke if the Democrats take control.

More than a "slight inconvenience," higher gas prices increases the cost of everything, from groceries, to home construction, to health care.
This is because all businesses require items (food, lumber, tools, medicine, equipment) that must be transported.

“Iran can never get nukes,” on the other hand, is the same sh!t they’ve been hearing for years. These people aren’t picking one over the other. They are dismissing one completely because they’ve lost confidence in their government and media institutions.
