What we witnessed yesterday on the Downing Street step was deeply troubling to those who care about our democracy.
In the space of just a few short weeks, Andy Burnham has effectively crowbarred his way into No10 without anyone even trying to block his path.
He has arrived there unelected, unopposed and with no mandate from the public whatsoever but for a by-election victory in Makerfield.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country has been left scratching its head in bewilderment as it faces yet another handover of power to someone it never asked for, nor, frankly, knows very much about politically at all.
Considering this is someone who claims he wants to bring about the biggest change in our politics for 40 years, this represents a very disturbing state of affairs indeed.
Make no mistake, this is a coup, plain and simple. There must be a General Election immediately.
Worryingly, what few words Burnham did say before he disappeared behind that famous black door indicate his time in office promises to be every bit as disastrous as Sir Keir Starmer’s, if not worse.
Forgive me if I missed it, but I detected absolutely nothing in that short, rather dull speech which pointed toward any discernible plan for tackling the major issues facing this country.
Instead, all I heard was a lot of Left‑wing murmurings that will set teacups rattling not just in boardrooms across the City of London, but in hard-working households up and down the country.

I like Farage. But he’s wrong here, and I’m certain that he knows it.
Burnham became prime minister via standard procedures that are centuries old. No coup. It’s just how the British election system is set up.
Credit to our Founders for picking a different system.

Yes. Certainly.
My concern is that Reform and Restore will split the protest vote in the next UK general election, allowing Labour to cruise to another win.
If Farage should ever contact me, I would strongly advise him to stand down and let Lowe take the lead. But then again, I doubt if Farage will ever contact me.

That has happened recently in the US twice. The Obozo was not eligible to be the POTUS and he was ordained for two terms in the WH via vote fraud and election rigging and the DNC changing the wording on its presidential Candidate eligibility form. Then there isJoe Biden who was without question cheated into the WH. He even admitted it. The majority of the American people didn’t vote either of them into office, they were cheated in and in both cases one can legitimately consider that to be a coup.

That was not actually my point. The British monarch is just a puppet, and has been for centuries. In fact, he doesn’t even write his opening speech to Parliament. The majority party writes it for him.
If for any reason Charles does not sign off on a new government, Parliament could simply meet and declare Britain to be a republic. Then Charlie and company are off to the US to live with Harry and Megs.
So, yeah. Charles will sign off.

True. And it's not like he's an autocrat. The Labour Parliament appointed him. The Labour Parliament can remove him. And the people voted in that Labour Parliament.
The UK is not a democracy.
The monarchy still supposedly commands the military. It would be interesting if the Fabian Society\Labor parliament would declare a monarchy. What the would the military would do!

That is a most excellent point. Members of the British military takes an oath not to Parliament, but to the monarch.
Yes, Parliament had the power to abolish the monarchy. And there is no legal appeal to that. But suppose a bold monarch responds by declaring martial law?
It would make for an interesting novel, to be sure.

Hmm… that might be a good move. Burnham is still in his honeymoon stage. He could promise lots of stuff. Lower taxes, help with energy bills, more control over illegal immigration. Etc.
And fire a few cabinet ministers to pretend that he means business.
Then call a snap election.

Exactly right. Bugs me when people on our side who are right ruin it by going ridiculously overboard.
He can get away with blaming Starmer for a year. But eventually people will start to blame him.
