'We want land invasion': Iran mouthpiece touts new missile, boasts decades of war prep

Tehran has spent decades preparing for — and welcoming — a U.S. ground invasion, a senior Iranian official has claimed, as fresh explosions rocked the region on the eighth day of renewed U.S.-Iran strikes.

Seyed Mohammad Marandi, an Iranian American academic identified as a regime "Tehran had just launched a "new missile" while decentralizing and burying its arsenal deep underground to withstand sustained American air campaigns.

"The Americans are planning an invasion. I'm not saying it will necessarily happen. I'm not saying it will necessarily happen in the next few days. But they have plans for an invasion," Marandi, a former advisor to Iran's nuclear negotiation team, said in an interview with political analyst Glenn Diesen.

"Whether they carry them out or not, we'll see. But the Iranians, as you pointed out, the focus of Iranian strikes is on Bahrain and Kuwait, and that's because that's where most American assets have been placed for a ground invasion," Diesen said.

Marandi’s comments came as the conflict expanded across western and southern Iran in the run-up to Saturday.

Jordanian officials confirmed they intercepted 10 missiles early Saturday, while authorities in Kuwait reported casualties and severe damage to a domestic power and desalination plant.

In response, U.S. airstrikes struck bridges, a key road tunnel, surveillance outposts and reinforced underground weapons storage facilities.

Multiple explosions also rocked the city of Khorramabad in Iran's Lorestan province. Iranian state media claimed the blasts were caused by U.S. missiles launched from regional bases in Kuwait, according to reports.

Kharg Island is not Iwo Jima.

It’s Corregidor.

Iran doesn’t need a “Ho Chi Minh trail” because there is abundant adjacent friendly territory for support and replenishment.

“But the whole purpose of fighting those 71 days would have been for naught. A waste of time.”

Only if you’re concerned about what happens when you leave.

But get it, kill the principals and burn all their sh!t, and get out is a valuable objective in its own right.

Saudi Arabia in particular has lots of nice, fancy equipment to go with their huge (REALLY HUGE in some past years*) defense budget, but except for a few elite units are not anywhere near as capable as they should be. :-(

The ironic thing is, Saudi “could” be extremely strong in this new world of FPV drones, etc. Saudi Arabia has one of the highest concentrations of gamers in the world, with approximately 23 to 24 million active players. That represents over 65% of the population!! Put 10% of that resource on the job, use Ukie designs and have S. Korea or Philippines build the millions of drones, the US could supply the communications — Iran would be totally hosed.

*Some years Saudi had the 3rd largest defense budget on this planet!

Acquiring nuclear weapons was always a must do so they can destroy the little and big Satan and bring back the Mahdi. They are religious maniacs. We aren’t driving them to do anything. We’re retarding it and nope destroying these monsters.

But that’s obviously NOT what we did in 71 days.

Look at how many times we won in our latest Iranian war. 60-70 wins at least. As per Trump.

Why would we touch the bridges when Iran is taking the ground war to Kuwait? They won’t even be in country.
We do not need to destroy all of the infrastructure. I do wish the civilians had a way to organize.

You responded to a post I made to somebody else and I thought I was responding to them.

Too bad. So sad.

Didn’t you mean “were not”?

The problem there was that bombing cities doesn’t require accuracy, but taking out infrastructure generally does, unless you conduct massive raids of the sorts used to... destroy cities.

Yes, just like they have felt that it was essential for the last several decades. They might even try to enrich uranium or something if we upset them.

We can’t compare past wars with what we are doing now. The rules of engagement are now what they should have always been. That’s because we we have a Department of war now. You no longer need to get permission from some JAG Officer stateside to shoot back.

* Have they surrendered yet?

* They never will.

* What location are the nuclear materials?

* And what locations are their delivery systems?

Precision strike those and leave all the Middle East.
