On this we agree.

P229 is my EDC and every other use pistol. Rock solid. Own “a few”.

The best gun is the one you don’t have because you lost it in a boating accident.

> That 22 just pisses off Mr. Grizz and makes him more determined to eat you. <

By golly, but that’s a fair point. I like my 22 hollow point revolver. That is, if I still had it. Unfortunately I lost it in a boating accident a few years ago. These things happen.

No way would I go into bear country with only that 22. And with a 12 gauge shotgun, perhaps.

Quick story.
A friend of mine went hunting in Alaska. His guide carried a 12 gauge double- barreled shotgun. “If a bear attacks, two shots will be all that you’ll get,” the guide said.

I like how so many of these comments are about carrying a single gun.

I wonder how many people also carry a vehicle rifle (no round in the chamber depending on the state you are in) and one of those green grocery bags full of loaded 30 round magazines.

8 round semi automatic M-1 Garands vs. single bolt actions. We out fired them.

For this purpose I second the choice of 10mm; unless I’d take it as a secondary choice.

I think I’d want good capacity, range long enough to do more than try and beat a cat’s reaction time, and strong enough to finish any confrontation quickly.

10mm will do in which case I’d suggest one of the pistol-caliber carbines (PCC); or else something in .300BLK or similar. Those are good to 200-300 yards and more importantly are a heavy enough rifle round that the cat won’t get you before it stops or perishes.

10mm has the advantage that you can carry a pistol in the same caliber and have a backup. Better, many PCC take the same magazines as the pistols, which gives you lots of flexibility.

I had a Glock 30 for a while. It was a tack driver. I traded it for a Para Ordnance 12-45 because it had a thumb safety.

I've seen a video of a person being robbed trying to fire his pistol only to realize that he had failed to disengage the safety. Being put in a high stress situation can undo years of muscle memory. It's for that reason I would never carry a pistol with an external safety, nor would I ever carry without one in the chamber. My go-to pistol for decades has been the Glock 23.

I have a Galco Combat Master for almost all our pistols except the Sigs. Being a Legion member they give you a nice discount on the good stuff. They have an arrangement with Rosen.

I take advantage of that every time they offer it.

There’s nothing like well made cowhide on your hip.
