Iran holds crisis talks in Oman as US issues Strait of Hormuz demand

Iranian and Middle East diplomats held crisis talks in Oman Saturday to respond to the US demand that Tehran issue a public pledge to keep the Strait of Hormuz open – while reportedly weighing whether to propose a new travel route along the critical waterway.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi in Muscat to discuss “safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz,” according to state media in Tehran.

There were no indications top US officials were involved in the negotiations.

Qatari officials, who have sometimes served in a mediating role between the warring countries, are taking part in the discussions that included the possibility of creating a “median lane” through the strait, Axios reported.

The plan could represent a compromise – but it is unclear if it would satisfy the Trump administration.

The US wants shipping to travel through a southern route along the Omani coast, while Tehran wants vessels to hug the coast and go through areas it can control.

The US is demanding the Iranian regime issue a public statement acknowledging the waterway is open for business and pledge not to fire on any more ships – following a series of Iranian attacks in the strait that have drawn withering responses from the US military.

“They’re either going to give us that statement, or we’re not going to have a good outcome,” a US official told reporters Friday.

Just wipe out all Iranian shipping in the entire gulf. If it, any boat, docks at any Iranian port in the gulf it is targeted. They can use ports south of the strait.

Will that end all Iranian fishing? Yup. Tough shitte. Until Iran can prove they can be trusted they will do without any water frolicking. Again, tough shitte.

Yes. Bomb them until they come to the table, bomb them while they are at the table, and bomb them until they capitulate everything we want. Then, bomb them every time they stray from whatever agreement there is.

Don’t stop the bombardment. They won’t learn any other way...and may not learn even then.

Was NY Mayor Zohran Mamdani involved???

Apparently he has an ‘in’ with the Iranian regime... Likely because the Iranian regime and Mamdani have a mutual hatred of America.

“Apparently DJT wants to invade Iran near the Hormoz strait with land forces. It will be a quagmire. :-(”

Nonsense.

Quagmires come from nation building, not from achieving military objectives.

We can take and hold Qesham and Bandar Abbas with 3 combat brigades. And Bandar Abbas has a very large airport which can support the largest of US logistics aircraft.

Then Specops can be turned loose to hunt and kill.

One cant hit a bully just hard enough for him to go home. If you’re dealing with a bully you have to give him a beating he’ll never forget. Iran will keep fvcking around until their military ability is nil.

Iran does not have a unified government. Their military forces dont answer to their civilian authorities and they have no interest anything on paper. Their military forces Iranian military needs to be crushed.

Ha. But maybe Iran should ask for and get 90 days of extension from the US because they are involved in talks in Oman. Will report to the US in 60 days about progress.

This.

And there is no need to invade the bully’s house (boots on the ground in Iran).

Well, its currently after midnight in Iran, Saturday has come and gone there. So far, dead silence on this side. Everyone waits with held breath to see if this latest threat from Trump goes in the file cabinet with the rest or if it meant something.
