We already have the text messages between Lance Twiggs and Tyler Robinson where the later confesses to the crime.
Twiggs confirmed in this pre-recorded interview, taken in April but played for the first time in court on Thursday, that Robinson was acting strangely and making statements of regret the following day. He also confirmed that Robinson left early the day of the assassination.
Yesterday, the FBI forensic expert who led the team that analyzed the crime scene said Tyler Robinson's DNA was found on the screwdriver that was used to assemble the .30-06 rifle that shot Charlie Kirk. His DNA was also found on a towel that was wrapped around the rifle when it was discarded in a nearby patch of woods.

Does Utah have the death penalty? I know that’ll death penalty appeals take over 20 years, but otherwise Taylor Robinson will spend his remaining days in prison.

His best bet is to plead temporary insanity....or plea deal to take the death penalty off the table.
From my understanding that was a deal and they do not have to make a deal. They could take down his confession and make no deal. Could bypass a jury though I guess.

At trial, the defense can attempt to refute some of the evidence. At these preliminary hearings, the defense can attempt to block some of the evidence.
Some of this will be “tried in the media.” For instance, the defense leaked out that the bullet could not be matched to the supposed gun. What the defense left out, of course, was that the bullet was so mangled, it cannot be matched to any gun.

I have been watching the hearing this week.
The main strategy of the defense is to keep all evidence from being admitted.
We are now in the midst of day 4 and I would estimate that 80% of the hearing has dealt with the defense team arguing that a certain piece of evidence should not be admitted.
On balance I have not learned much of any new info that had not already been released many months ago.
