Thank God the State of Idaho has Initiative Petition 28 (IP28),
also known as the PEACE Act.
If it passes, it would eliminate existing legal exemptions for hunting, fishing, livestock farming, and pest control, making these activities punishable under state animal cruelty statutes.
oh wait, wrong state :)
The guide did all of the heavy lifting.
I’ve been fishing the South Fork of the Snake River most of my life. That’s a great fish. I’ve never got close to something like that. I used to drift the river a lot. Browns are the trout family white shark. I caught one with a minnow sticking out of his throat after he hit my big black spinner. The river stays cold most years and the fish generally stay active. I’m no fan of eating trout. Unless I hurt them, they go back. My wife loves eating them. I’d rather have perch. The South Fork of the Snake River is a beautiful float trip from Swan Valley to Ririe. Right now it can be a quick float. They’re dumping 14,000 cfs through Palisades Dam for irrigation. Happy 4th yall.
My B-I-L just shared a picture of his one inch shorter Brown trout...beautiful creatures. I said he should have stretched it out/lol
Catch and release is woke.
That’s a pretty fish.
Good grief, when that thing hit the lure he had to be thinking, “Oh, good, I’ve caught a human!”
That’s not a trout, it a sturgeon in speckled camouflage!
Yikes!
What a monster...
I wish you good weather and good luck on your fishing. I spent a day on the flats with a guide in Florida. Caught 2 decent snook.
We spotted a tarpon, I suppose he was 6-foot or so. IIRC (this was 35+ years ago) I made one bad cast, and then made a good one that dragged the lure (a rubber tube thing I think?) right in front of him.
I’m used to fishing for bass and was anticipating a big strike.
Tap. Tap. “Oh right!” I set the hook. 1 second too late as I recalled the guide saying how a tarpon eats. Not blaming him, but I wish he had reminded me when we saw the tarpon, rather than just telling me at the start of the trip.
I liked the flats fishing, sort of a cross between fishing and hunting.

To me, intentionally fishing catch & release is animal abuse, similar to deer hunting with paintballs or some such.
If you don’t intend to eat them, don’t go harass them just for “sport” self gratification.
Old joke told by Zig Ziglar.
A very pious and religious man who never swore went out on his boat to fish with his decidedly less religious pal.
After a few disappointing attempts to catch anything the religious fisherman felt a heavy tug. He worked and finally pulled into the bright sunshine the biggest and most beautiful fish of his life.
As his friend held the bucket under it, the man maneuvered the line and the fish suddenly squirmed and hit the rim of the bucket and then splashed into the water, lost.
Red faced but silent and clenching his fists, the religious man said to his silent friend: “Shouldn’t ONE OF US be saying something right now?”

Holy shxt!!! That’s quite the trout.
You might want to look into Jaguar Cichlids, too. I don’t know how big they can get in South FL, but in their native waters they can be as much as 2 ft. long. Shape is somewhat akin to a green sunfish, but greenies rarely get over 7” long - at least in my area. Jaguar Cichlids are primarily piscivores, and aggressive feeders at that. They are said to be good table fare, tho’ I know that’s not your “thing”.

It’s all those Idaho potatoes those fish eat.
Have a great time fishing! I hope you catch nice big fish of all on your list! Stay safe and God Bless!!
