Fights have broken out across France as hundreds of shoppers scramble for air conditioning units before soaring temperatures next week.
Footage showed Parisians scuffling over the coveted equipment in a Lidl supermarket after 400 people queued all night to get their hands on a unit on Thursday.
The clashes came after temperatures reached 44C (111ºF) in parts of France last week, with sweltering heat set to return on Monday.
One customer reportedly injured eight people, including a 12-year-old, with pepper spray in an attempt to get his hands on an air-conditioning (AC) unit.
Seems like Europe's experiment with no air conditioning is working out great! Thankfully, though it isn't expected to be fall-ish anytime soon, it does look like the weather in Paris won't be as mind-meltingly hot over the coming week

Grew up in a four story house in the Midwest. Back in the 80s my dad had a 220 outlet ran to the living room and installed a heavy duty window unit. When they moved, he put in two furnaces and A/Cs to sell the house. We didn’t have one but a lot of houses had a patio or flat area outside the 2nd floor and a lot of my friends slept outside under the stars during the summer.
Burn that natural gas!
Looks like a black friday sale 10 years ago.
10% for the Bidet Guy...
Liberté, égalité, fraternité, Humidity!............
Typical stupidity of all European countries — “We aren’t soft like those horrid Americans with their AC.”
Uhh, hey, numbnuts, a mark of civilization is modifying your environment when (WHEN!!) it suits you. Only savages just sit there muttering about how “natural” they are.
Pi$$ on ‘em.
Allota schwetty balls 😆
From what I’ve seen, the ones here for the world cup have seen the light.
Meanwhile, I was cold last night. It was 59° in my bedroom when I got up this morning. Not because of the A/C. No, it’s just cold in Alaska. I have a space heater in my bathroom that I run every time I’m in there.
and yet price of soap remains the same
but hey ac that used to be enjoyed by the corpses in the morgue in eu is now available to all

“Liberté, égalité, fraternité, humidité.”
Yesterday was French Thanksgiving.
I am surprised a filthy imported new French even had to go to the store to buy AC.
I remember buying 1lb cans at Kmart for a full auto BB gun for about 50 cents. Then okf course. “Save the planet” When I was a mechanic 1lb was 100 bucks a pound. My dad bought a couple hundred pounds when it was about to be banned and made a fortune.
One of the stupidest environment scams ever. It was heavier than air and ground bacteria ate the stuff up.
DuPont lobbying killed it. Now, we have the new garbage that is more dangerous and damaging than r12 ever was.
I bought my dumb sister a window a/c unit a few years ago. She loved it the first year then put it away.
The next year she discovered mice had moved in so she took apart the unit and cleaned it out. After using it during part of the summer she discovered mice moved in again while running so she took it apart and decided not to use again.
She let the mice win....
The U shaped or saddle window a/c units look interesting.
42db, 45db. May be quieter then a regular window a/c unit.

Google results: Modern window air conditioners are significantly quieter than older models, typically running between 40 and 60 dB. For comparison, 40 dB is like the hum of a quiet library, while 60 dB is similar to a normal conversation or the ambient noise of an office.
Noise levels depend heavily on the technology used and how hard the machine is working:
Inverter vs. Standard Compressors: Traditional AC units rely on an on-and-off compressor that can cause a jarring, loud rattle. Modern units with inverter technology (like the Midea U-Shaped or LG Dual Inverter) run continuously at lower, variable speeds, resulting in a smooth, unobtrusive hum.
Ultra-Quiet Mode (Sleep Mode): When on a dedicated low or “sleep” setting, advanced units can drop to as low as 42 dB to 44 dB, which is nearly silent and great for bedrooms.
High Cool Setting: When blasting on maximum to cool down a hot room quickly, even the quietest inverter models will produce about 50 to 56 dB
#4 it is not but the company that had the patent run out on freon so they helped make up global arming to get the gov’t to mandate new versions that were not as good but that they had a patent on.
