I bought my dumb sister a window a/c unit a few years ago. She loved it the first year then put it away.

The next year she discovered mice had moved in so she took apart the unit and cleaned it out. After using it during part of the summer she discovered mice moved in again while running so she took it apart and decided not to use again.

She let the mice win....

The U shaped or saddle window a/c units look interesting.
42db, 45db. May be quieter then a regular window a/c unit.

Google results: Modern window air conditioners are significantly quieter than older models, typically running between 40 and 60 dB. For comparison, 40 dB is like the hum of a quiet library, while 60 dB is similar to a normal conversation or the ambient noise of an office.

Noise levels depend heavily on the technology used and how hard the machine is working:

Inverter vs. Standard Compressors: Traditional AC units rely on an on-and-off compressor that can cause a jarring, loud rattle. Modern units with inverter technology (like the Midea U-Shaped or LG Dual Inverter) run continuously at lower, variable speeds, resulting in a smooth, unobtrusive hum.

Ultra-Quiet Mode (Sleep Mode): When on a dedicated low or “sleep” setting, advanced units can drop to as low as 42 dB to 44 dB, which is nearly silent and great for bedrooms.

High Cool Setting: When blasting on maximum to cool down a hot room quickly, even the quietest inverter models will produce about 50 to 56 dB
