The Left sees International Communism as the inevitable result of historical progression. And they see Nationalism as one of the primary roadblocks to this progression (the other roadblock being Christianity). Nationalism and Patriotism remind them of Hitler and his love of the Fatherland. America is a proud nation and therefore, we are just like Hitler.
It is because they can smell themselves.
