Went and saw Supergirl with my comic loving teenager. Don’t know why other than the actresses comments in an interview this movie is being dissed around here. Nothing political. Comic loving son said character was pretty accurate. Go see it. Even pluggedin online said it was fine.
We should support the efforts toward normality. Last year’s Superman was really good and sort of old school hero. Same with this movie.
Nothing woke that I could find in it.

I always pay attention to freeper recommendations, especially those that run against the groupthink that seems to kick in almost immediately on FR. Contrarians unite!
My resolution a few years ago was not to dump on something unless I had seen it. Supergirl was not on my list simply because I’ve never had a thing for flying spandex movies. But I also don’t dump on other peoples’ genre preferences.
I’ll keep an open mind and may watch more reviews and clips. It could turn into one of those movies I end up watching just to see what the fuss is about.
I have seen a couple of clips in which the actress comes across badly, and in ways that might hint of a bit too much bubbly in the greenroom before she hit the red carpet. I can overlook some stumbles in that department, as I only quit drinking myself 36 years ago and can still remember ... oh, never mind. I was young and stupid once myself. If she has a problem in that area, the studio needs to get a couple of handlers on her before they do any more publicity. And maybe nudge her towards dealing with it the right way.
Good point. I thought about something. If I needed to make money and sell to Chinese government to do so, sure, I’d make a second movie for them. Then I’d take the proceeds and donate it to TPUSA or something.
Movie tagline Truth, Justice, Whatever. Hollywood won’t get a dime from me. They hate you.
I would say it is far left, and that people who don’t see that are already strongly influenced by leftism. For example, this is the 1001st “gurl-power” movie that implausibly portrays petite women throwing around much larger men. That’s a leftist fantasy, not reality. It deserves eye-rolling, not applause. Don’t lower your standards because you’ve been standing in the sewage for so long that it has started to smell normal.
I don’t know what reality you live in but NOBODY thought Captain America was woke. Woke wasnt even a thing when Captain America came out.
Now maybe you’re talking about Brave New World and… well… it WAS very woke.
Robot Chicken’s Superman is better than Supergirl...
If it weren’t for my three sons all into super hero movies and comics (two are grown the youngest a teen), I’d not care to go see any. Not my genre. I’m actually very picky. Was expecting leftist overload like Captain Marvel. It wasn’t and we had a good time.
by the way, Supergirl def has a drinking problem in the move. She’s super not perfect and problematic. Also, this actress looks so much like country singer Leaan Rimes, it’s uncanny.
Dude…I saw Captain Marvel…SHE was treated like a super god. As a matter of fact, the movie didn’t need any other characters at all. There was a def lesbian theme running in that.
I think I can discern.
Super girl was weak in comparison with Superman in THIS film…yeah they brought him in. There were other strong GOOD male figures in the film that had good character qualities. They kept the movie short and sweet (one hour 43 minutes), and I appreciated that.
No it wasn’t “woke.”
It wasn’t “conservative” or “left.” Just a movie. That’s all.
Powers Booth! Tremendous actor!
Girl boss garbage. Hard pass.
Not hardly. I thought it would be and it wasn’t.
My 30yo center-left daughter (I did my best!) and her hard-left gff went to see the movie last weekend, and their review is similar to yours: it was old-style feminist without being woke-feminist, and they were both OK with that.
I'm useless, I've only seen two theater movies in the last two years, a Miyazaki reissue and Pressure on D-Day, which brought me to tears, a good movie well made.
That didn't turn out so well as we've seen.
I’m going to have to look at those movies! Thanks for the recommendation!
I too remember that very well. I’m not sure the reasoning for “China will stick with us” was a thing, but back then it was.
Good to know. Might take it in to beat the heat.
I was thinking back about the movie with the most deaths. I have to put it with “2012” The very silly John Cusack movie that spent a full half hour worrying about rescuing a small dog while billions of people had just died.
yes
I ate at McDonalds. I don’t know what everyone is complaining about...it’s fine...
