Went and saw Supergirl with my comic loving teenager. Don’t know why other than the actresses comments in an interview this movie is being dissed around here. Nothing political. Comic loving son said character was pretty accurate. Go see it. Even pluggedin online said it was fine.
We should support the efforts toward normality. Last year’s Superman was really good and sort of old school hero. Same with this movie.
Nothing woke that I could find in it.
Did you see the review I posted? It says the young “heroine” is a drunk.
Are you saying the review I posted from a Christian site is lying?
See the difference is, um…she’s not staying drunk as she finds out that’s morally wrong. So, did you watch the movie to find that part out? Or are you just criticizing. Plugged in online talked about the drinking aspect. It was treated as something that was a flaw for the character and she had to work through.
You know, sort of like, it’s not good to be drunk…it certainly wasn’t glorified.
I have always felt safe under Underdog’s cape! :)
As I pointed out in the original post, I was responding to the review. You are saying something that they don’t, that there is a redemption arc and that is very different.
1. Lead actress mocked Christian fathers
2. She doubled down by saying, "If you’re pissing the right kind of people off, you’re doing OK.”
3. Then, playing the misandrist, she made it about gender. "Simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on. We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies.”
4. Girl saving world plot is tiresome
5. The washed-up loner, depressive drinker comes out of isolation theme doesn't work on a young girl; it works for old men.
6. More CGI garbage
SG needs to clear 425M to break even. It's projected to make 107-180M total. That's a loss of 60% for hiring an inexperienced writer and insulting lead actress.
It's clear people associated with this production did not want Christian men to bring their daughters to see the movie, so we we won't.
Saw Young Washington yesterday. it was great! Friday was its opening day, and it was a much more timely movie opening date than Supergirl, so I;m not surprised.
Washington is a truly difficult character to portray.
