If Roseanne proved that the left will stop at nothing to pull a sitcom star off the air over political views, Tim Allen continues to demonstrate that it’s possible to avoid that fate.
Not only has he enjoyed recent success as the lead in “Shifting Gears,” he’s also been at the center of talks about a reboot of his classic series “Home Improvement.”
That project has been stalled lately, though, and the right-leaning funnyman addressed the issue for fans who are looking forward to new episodes of the ‘90s sitcom.
As the Daily Wire reported:
“They keep talking about how it could move forward, but they get stuck [because] there are some personality problems right now with the boys,” Allen told Us Weekly in an interview published Wednesday.
This comment likely referred to Zachery Ty Bryan being arrested in November 2025 over a domestic violence violation after previously being arrested for suspicion of DUI, felony assault, and robbery, as the outlet noted. He was also arrested on suspicion of strangling his then-girlfriend in 2020. Bryan starred as one of Allen’s sons in the series, which began when he was 9 years old.
Another blow to any hope of a reboot is that, in 2024, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who played another son on the show, is no longer “interested in acting,” according to his former co-star Patricia Richardson.
“They’ve got their own issues. I always thought it would be cool if it was a story about them. That’s a little challenging right now, to put it mildly,” the actor added.
The massive hit “Home Improvement” ran for eight seasons from 1991 to 1999. Allen starred as Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, and the series followed him as he navigated life with his wife and three sons. Allen, who has a real-life love of cars, previously starred in the popular, Trump-friendly sitcom “Last Man Standing” for many years before it was shockingly canceled in 2017.
Other decades-old sitcoms, including “Frasier” and “Malcolm in the Middle,” have been rebooted in recent years with a varying number of original cast members opting to return.
Allen’s remarks about “Home Improvement” sparked some social media discussion, including some who would prefer to leave the show as it is instead of potentially ruining it with today’s Hollywood sensibilities:
The “Malcolm” reboot did receive some negative feedback for its inclusion of a trans character, as Outkick reported earlier this year:
You probably couldn’t tell from that two-minute teaser trailer, but “Malcolm in the Middle” has apparently gone just a little woke.
For starters, Stevie (Malcolm’s wheelchair-bound best friend) is a gay Ru Paul lookalike and has an adopted son with his lover.
In an attempt to placate the rest of the LGBTQ+ community, Malcolm and his brothers have a trans/non-binary sibling whom the first episode of the new series has an entire segment built around.
In it, Kelly, explains that “they” haven’t felt like a girl (since that’s Kelly’s gender at birth, apparently) since they were 5 years old, all accompanied by soft piano music to tug at the viewers’ heartstrings.
And viewers are pissed, to say the least.

According to TVLine, Molly E. left Last Man Standing following the show’s ABC cancellation under the assumption that the show was over, once and for all. Not knowing that the series would be picked up by Fox, she entered contracts with other projects, which ultimately left her out of the running for the revisited series.
It'll be difficult to make a sequel because Tim Taylor won't be able to make jokes in 2026. In the '90s, they were socially acceptable. Today? He's a male chauvinist.
Last Man Standing....I pick this as the very best of his works.

Darrin Stephens on “Bewitched” was played by two different actors: Dick York from 1964 to 1969 and Dick Sargent from 1969 to 1972.
I get a laugh out of Tim, but for pete’s sake, give it up already. The show had a great run. Go work on your cars, Tim!
I had heard that Dick York left Bewitched because years earlier he had injured his back playing a soldier in a movie (lifting a piece of heavy equipment).
The injury had started acting up again and he physically could not continue working long hours on Bewitched.
Anyway, I remember reading that story many years ago.

I’m sorry. I know Tim Allen is a darling of the right and I applaud him for being so but I tried watching all of his shows just to support him but I found them so utterly stupid that I couldn’t.
Where do these surnames come from? If my last name was Dick I would change it.
That’s what makes them funny. The Three Stooges were utterly stupid, but they were the most popular comedy film team of their day.........................
Reboots, when Hollywood runs out of ideas for shows. The ‘Taylor kids’ are not actors anymore. Besides, who’ll replace Wilson?
