Karmelo Anthony SOBS as he is found guilty of murder of Austin Metcalf, 17, in stabbing that shocked America, as he is finally taken into custody ahead of sentence that could see him jailed for 99 years

Killer Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murder for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a Texas high school track meet.

Anthony, now 19, sobbed, and his family burst into tears as the judge read the verdict on Tuesday.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours after the defense and prosecution delivered closing arguments.

Anthony claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed Metcalf, 17, with a folding knife after a heated argument at the high school event in Frisco in April 2025.

The case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding it quickly became racially fraught.

During closing arguments, prosecutors eviscerated Anthony's self-defense claim and encouraged jurors to find him guilty of murder.

'What is important is not motive. It's mindset. Mindset. He took a knife to a track meet,' Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said.

'[Anthony] of course, felt empowered that he was going to come out on top of any encounter. You don't get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove.'

Wirskye added, 'Why didn't he just walk away. He could have left the tent at any time. He didn't. He didn't abandon the encounter.'

That’s extremely logical.

He has to do at least 30 before parole. I can imagine that Austin’s brother Hunter will be at that parole hearing.

“...refusing to back down...”

Because they think they can get away with it by crying racism.

The idea is to make sure there will always be black jurors, whenever a black person is on trial.

This guy technic can’t still can be tried. He hasn’t been judged “not guilty” so double jeopardy isn’t a factor. IIRC, he wasn’t competent to stand trial (or similar). Maybe later... ?

You shut your mouth and you shut it now. Maybe a few are writing something like that, but not all, or even many, of us. Keep your generalization to yourself. He murdered the other boy, nothing else. Punish him appropriately. If anyone riots, I would have them shot dead as a sign for folks to not ever do that again. Any questions?

His lawyer was a public pretender.

Karmelo was represented by Attorney Mike Howard. He is a private attorney at The Law Office of Mike Howard, PLLC which he formed about 17 years ago. I'm sure this attorney consumed a significant chunk of the donated money. As for Mr. Howard's defense, I was not at all impressed. Maybe that has more to do with having an impossible task. Seemed like a pretty slam-dunk case for the prosecutor.

“ I hope the lawyer wasn’t so bad that it’ll be grounds for an appeal.”

He wasn’t bad. He was clearly hoping for and trying to demonstrate it was manslaughter. It’s all they had given the overwhelming evidence it wasn’t self defense. He was not a public defender. A PD was originally assigned but then they hired this guy who is considered on of the top criminal attorneys in the area. They won’t win an appeal on incompetence of counsel. That is a very heavy burden and is VARY rarely successful.

“It’s pretty much forbidden in white and Mexican cars

The Brand and La Eme usually kill members over it”

Black dude just murdered a hispanic guy in Houston who was trying to recover his son’s stolen truck. Here’s hoping real justice is administered in prison:

I'd say it was an impossible case to defend, considering Karmelo was previously suspended for carrying that knife to school.

I'm hardly the perfect parent, but had one of my kids been suspended for the same thing, I'd be checking their backpacks every time they were leaving the house.

About 55 years ago, my parents gave me a beautiful Buck knife, which I kept in a scabbard attached to my belt. Took it to school almost every day, as did 20+ fellow students. Of course, nothing ever happened.

The problem isn't the knife. It's the feral hoodlum, brought up wrong and trained to do worse, that's the problem.

Of course, nothing ever happened.

Because we aren't feral hoodlums.
