Killer Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murder for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a Texas high school track meet.
Anthony, now 19, sobbed, and his family burst into tears as the judge read the verdict on Tuesday.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours after the defense and prosecution delivered closing arguments.
Anthony claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed Metcalf, 17, with a folding knife after a heated argument at the high school event in Frisco in April 2025.
The case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding it quickly became racially fraught.
During closing arguments, prosecutors eviscerated Anthony's self-defense claim and encouraged jurors to find him guilty of murder.
'What is important is not motive. It's mindset. Mindset. He took a knife to a track meet,' Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said.
'[Anthony] of course, felt empowered that he was going to come out on top of any encounter. You don't get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove.'
Wirskye added, 'Why didn't he just walk away. He could have left the tent at any time. He didn't. He didn't abandon the encounter.'

It's too bad this feral animal who bragged he "got that white bitch" got off with "incompetent to stand trial"
They don’t usually fear whites anymore
They sure as hell feared my ancestors up till the 80s and with good reason
You’ll notice they don’t wander into east LA so much stirring up random crap
Geeez I wonder why
Jury was out almost three hours. What took them so long?
It wasn’t even that minor. He went to the other team’s tent to start some Shiite. He intentionally took a knife there and killed a white boy for street cred. Well now he’s got all the street cred he so desperately craved...........
What was the pic? It has been removed.
Never been one myself, but I’ve known lots of Public Defenders who were fine lawyers. I think they might have done the best that could be done with an essentially non-existent defense. Rolled the dice on a hung jury
“She’ll be crying all the way to the bank.”
Why is that? Is she expecting a payout for some reason?
I guess his retirement from the NBA took its toll.
“His lawyer was awful.”
I hope the lawyer wasn’t so bad that it’ll be grounds for an appeal.
I heard Abbot is going to pardon him.
I have served on more than one jury. "Sequestration" begins with random chitchat, and in some States, selecting a Foreman. Then there's discussion of the case, and what we thought about various aspects of it ... and then there's voting. Followed by more discussion and debate over points of disagreement. Followed by voting. Lather, rinse repeat. It can get tense. Finally, there's a verdict. And then everybody relaxes ... and there might be some extended relaxation and random chitchat before calling the bailiff and announcing the existence of a verdict. So it always takes longer than outsiders think it should. Every jury of which I have been a part took its duties seriously.
“Jury was out almost three hours. What took them so long?”
I was banking on 20 minutes. I figure they were booking an airline out of the city or something.
btt!!
HANG HIM!
Lawrence had a way with words.
I hope he’s been doing sphincter strengthening exercises for the past year in his big mansion. He’s going to need it.
Ha.
Maybe Al Sharpton should volunteer to do all the work of national fundraising for protests and appeals and he will, as a revered man of the cloth, hold the money himself in his personal bank account and promise to send it to the right people.
Awww, but he’s just crying for himself, and probably has been since Day 1.
“What took them so long?“
Based on my last jury experience where I was the foreman (2d degree murder - guilty verdict), most of the discussion was around the level of the offense, i.e. murder or the lesser included charge of manslaughter. I expect we’ll hear something like that from the jurors when they are interviewed.
No way he gets 99. Maybe 20
And out in 10
