Trump says peace deal with Iran could come in ‘two or three days’
Politico ^ | June 9, 2026 | Ferdinand Knapp

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that, despite the exchange of strikes between Iran and Israel, a deal to end the war in the Middle East could be reached “in two or three days.”

“They were going back and forth [with strikes], and now they both agreed, through me, to stop, and now we’re in the final throes of what will be a very, very good deal,” Trump told reporters in New York, where he was attending the NBA finals in Madison Square Garden.

Trump said the deal would stop Iran from having nuclear weapons and result in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. “The strait will open up right away,” he insisted. “It’ll open up immediately upon signing.”

It is not the first time that the U.S. president has promised an imminent end to the war in Iran, which has been raging since February. Weeks have passed since Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that negotiating a deal to end the war in Iran could “take a few days.”

Trump on Monday said he had a “very good conversation” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and downplayed talks of a rift between the two leaders.

Last week Trump was reported to have called Netanyahu “crazy” for his renewed attacks on Lebanon, and over the weekend he told the Financial Times that the Israeli prime minister had “no choice” but to accept a deal with Iran.

The U.S. president on Sunday urged his Israeli counterpart not to retaliate after Iran launched several missiles at Israel. After Netanyahu seemingly ignored the request and struck several Iranian cities, Trump demanded both countries “immediately stop shooting” and respect the U.S.-brokered ceasefire that has been in effect since April.

Both sides suspended military operations on Monday afternoon, but Iran warned that it would respond to any attacks targeting its territory or Lebanon. An Israeli army spokesperson warned residents of the Lebanese city of Tyre to evacuate on Tuesday, suggesting strikes on Hezbollah targets were imminent.

Trump on Monday insisted that Netanyahu had not defied him by retaliating against Iran. “If I tell him to do something, he does it,” he told the BBC, explaining Israel had fired its missiles at Iran before the two leaders had spoken.

According to the Times of Israel, Netanyahu called off a major strike on Iran following the conversation with the U.S. president.

The seemingly brief breakdown of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire began after Israel struck Iran-backed Hezbollah targets in Beirut on Sunday, violating a separate ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Iran responded with missile attacks on Israel, calling them retaliation for the strikes on Lebanon. Israel then launched attacks on what it said were military targets in Iran.

The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that the United States was not directly involved in the latest attacks, although U.S. forces launched interceptors to protect American troops stationed in Israel.

Reporter: “president trump, when do you think war with Iran will be over?”

Trump: “well, it could be over soon. It could be over in 3 or 4 days.”

News headline “President says war with Iran is over! 4 days until 2$ gas”

Reality sets in.
FreeRepublic: “Damn Trump lied again!”

What you feel about our president is exactly what the people who control what you see and what you hear.the same people who control how you feel. The first priority of any (and I mean ANY) article is to first get you to hate our president. That is the first priority.

On review of decades of observation of Free Republic posts it is obvious that many fickle conservatives here always chose to bite the hand that feeds them

This - the now completely fair to mock Arnie in a drag costume in Total Recall (”Two Weeks!”) just really needs to stop.

A big part of me wants to just lash out at the “true believers” in places like this — because 25 years ago? Yes, I very much believed in W, Cheney, and the “neocons”. I *still* think they were more right than wrong, but they miscalculated and my views have moderated/changed over the years. And when it comes to the ME now? I tend to lean towards the idea that it’s just a quagmire we’re best steering clear of.

The big reason I want to lash out? Prior to February - here and elsewhere, as much I’m able to be circumspect and sober on the mistakes from 20-25 years ago, no shortage of grief “Oh, you’re a NEOCON!”. “You’re a hated Bushie!” GLOBOHOMO! Whatever.

Now? Trust the plan! Art of the deal! Greeted as liberators just TWO WEEKS! away.

No S*** I trust DJT — or any Republican — more than a rat to navigate a complicated matter.

But that doesn’t and shouldn’t mean I’m expected to put blind faith into ANY politician. As an American, I’m still allowed to form my own opinion and express it.

And what I see? A quagmire of a debacle predicated on Sunny Jim thinking that didn’t pan out. And it p***es me off, not because I have any kind of magic answer — but because:

1) Absolutely, positively NO would I support invasion and occupation. We’ve had enough of that.

2) No, sorry - I also do not support just “nuke ‘em”.

So here we are. In a hopeless drift, with no plan and no easy way out and with a challenging midterm election coming in just 5 months?

I hate the antisemites who say it’s all just doing the bidding of Israel. I hate the turtling isolationists who just want to have Fortress America. I hate the neocons who insist “this time will be different”. I hate the kool-aid drinkers who insist I should I just “trust the plan”.

It’s a crap situation. But my biggest “hate”? It’s a crap situation of choice.

the objective is peace, not a “deal.”

no deal with the Iranian dictators is worth the papayrus it is written on.

everyone knows this, they themselves proclaim their Koranic “taqyyih” right or even obligation to lie to the infidel if it advances Islam

PDJT may be a “dealmaker” but that works inside a law-based civilized society. it does not apply here

He eliminated all the top leadership in that time. The rest is all fallout. And NO ONE could have guessed that Iran would bomb the whole neighborhood of friends. That’s the key here.

This would be done and over if Iran didn’t simultaneously bomb their ally neighbors, or if they hadn’t lined up children around their buildings and bridges.

They are terrorists and it’s no proven to even their neighboring Muslim countries. That was the big game changer.

That was the big game changer.

The big game changer was President Trump not following through on his words.

Are you kidding me?

Saudi Arabia has been enemy #2 after Israel to Iran ever since we helped them out by eliminating Iraq. And Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain are little more than Saudi satellite states.

If people in the administration fell into the “NO ONE could have guessed” then lord help us because that’s idiotic.

Persians are not Arabs and Shiites are not Sunnis.

Iran attacking the Saudis and their satellite fiefdoms was the most expected thing in the world.

“And NO ONE could have guessed that Iran would bomb the whole neighborhood of friends.”

That has to be the inanest assumption in the world: that an extremist regime facing existential peril would not resort to extreme measures.
