Earthquake Report: Venezuela Doublet Earthquakes – June 24, 2026

On June 24, 2026, at 18:04:33 VET (22:04:33 UTC), a Mw 7.2 foreshock struck Veroes municipality in Yaracuy state, Venezuela (epicenter east-northeast of Yumare / near San Felipe area), at a depth of ~20–21.9 km. It was caused by left-lateral strike-slip faulting on an east-west trending fault.

Exactly 39–40 seconds later (18:05:12 VET approx.), the Mw 7.5 mainshock occurred nearby (directly east of the foreshock), at a shallower depth of ~10 km. This was a right-lateral strike-slip event on a similar fault within the Boconó–San Sebastián–El Pilar fault system (part of the Caribbean–South American plate boundary).

This rare “doublet” seismic sequence
produced maximum Modified Mercalli Intensity IX (Violent) near the epicenters. The mainshock is the strongest in Venezuela since the Mw 7.7 event of 1900. Over 30 aftershocks were recorded in the following hours (largest ~4.5). The quakes were strongly felt across northern Venezuela (especially Caracas ~280 km away, La Guaira, Carabobo, Aragua, Miranda) and as far as Caribbean islands and parts of Colombia.

● Casualties: At least 188 people killed and 1,520+ injured (figures have risen steadily from initial reports of 32 dead / ~700 injured). Nearly 40,000 people reported missing or unaccounted for; many remain trapped under rubble. Death toll is expected to rise.

● Structural & Infrastructure Damage: Widespread collapses of buildings, including multiple high-rises in Caracas (Altamira, Chacao, Los Palos Grandes, Baruta, Pinto Salinas). Severe damage in La Guaira (Vargas state – designated disaster zone), Yaracuy, Carabobo, Aragua, Miranda, Falcón, and Trujillo. Simón Bolívar International Airport (Maiquetía) heavily damaged with flights canceled. Power, telecommunications, and gas networks disrupted in affected zones; Caracas metro suspended.

● Response: National state of emergency declared. Large-scale search-and-rescue operations underway with international teams from the US (FEMA), France, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, and many others. Hospitals overwhelmed; schools closed and repurposed as shelters. USGS PAGER assessment indicates high probability of extensive damage and high casualties

Really, you don't think they have a mass of tunnels after all these years and the big bucks to do it with. The info was from Israel, the same folks we got lots of info from when we attacked together.
