Hantavirus outbreak spreads to Europe after MV Hondius cruise passenger tests positive back home(!)

The deadly hantavirus outbreak has spread to Europe after a passenger who had already left the MV Hondius cruise ship tested positive once back home, authorities announced in an alarming update Wednesday.

Swiss authorities said the man returned home last month following a trip to South America with his wife before testing positive for the virus, which can lie dormant for up to eight weeks.

He went to a Zurich hospital for testing after the cruise operator, Oceanwide Expeditions, emailed recent passengers about the spreading virus that has killed three people and sickened at least five, the World Health Organization said.

It was not immediately clear what condition the man is in after the latest positive test. His wife hasn’t shown any symptoms but she is self-isolating as a precaution.

Local health authorities maintained Wednesday that “there is currently no risk to the Swiss public.”

However, the news is sparking panic given that the virus appears to be spreading via “human-to-human transmission” and can be dangerous for eight weeks — with the cruise stranded at sea with alarmed countries scared of allowing it to dock.

The virus is usually spread through rodent droppings – but one rare strain, the Andes virus, can spread between people and carries a 40% mortality rate – and it’s likely the culprit behind the outbreak.

Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO’s director for epidemic and pandemic preparedness and prevention, told reporters Tuesday that “we do believe there may be some human-to-human transmission among very close contacts.”

Three people have died as a result of the outbreak, according to the World Health Organization.

Not to worry. Pfizer and Moderna have another jab ready on the shelf, and the WEF and WHO have the digital passports all set up. You won’t be able to work, buy, sell, or travel without them.

Well, it’s not nothing, not to the afflicted.

Or the passengers and crew on that ship.

But hanta is a lousy choice for fearmongering purposes.

And there’s an angle nobody’s talking about...

How did the infected rodents/poop/urine/saliva become a problem on that ship.

If it wasn’t because the cruise line cheaped out on sanitation and/or pest control, there might be another issue.

Hantavirus can be very bad.

During the Korean War (1951–1954), over 3,000 United Nations soldiers contracted a severe, then-unknown disease known as Korean Hemorrhagic Fever (KHF) near the Hantan River, with a mortality rate initially exceeding 10%. The virus was later identified as Hantavirus (specifically Hantaan virus), carried by field rodents, causing renal failure in troops.

But the Chinese and North Korean soldiers had it far worse, as they had no effective treatment for it.

Today, the disease is known as Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) and remains a concern in Korea, with roughly 300–600 cases reported annually.

A passenger was filming around the ship before they left for the cruise and there was not one person in sight. Later he posted an update, and he’s still the only person around. Why is no one else making videos?

WHO confirmed it is Andes Strain and it is the only one capable of person to person and they have at least one married couple who is likely P2P transmission.

2-8 week incubation time and the person is shedding virus from day 2-4 all the way to symptomatic and then while symptomatic.

Transmission is like Ebola takes fluid contact but formites have not been ruled out. Given that other hantavirus are primarily formite transmission that is not only likely but probable.

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/hantavirus-outbreak-mv-hondius-cruise-ship-who-expert-explains-rcna343467

They best get a handle on who and where these people have been and more importantly where they are allowed to go.

A full 8 week quarantine should be done but they won’t because of the Muh I know muh rights dingbats.

Remember the word quarantine literally means 40 day isolation it’s Latin. It comes from when a ship such as this had sick people on it and the port held it at gun point off shore for 40 days and killed anything and anyone who tried to leave that ship. We had real nation’s back then with back bones and sovereignty.

Yup ships doctor was medivac to the Canary Islands

“The British ship doctor was initially in serious condition before being evacuated on a medical flight to the Canary Islands.”

He is listed as being in stable condition as of today.

“How did the infected rodents/poop/urine/saliva become a problem on that ship.”

The WHO confirmed this is the Andes Strain which can and does do P2P transmission , it’s like Ebola you need to touch saliva, sweat, mucous, faeces, tears or blood and then touch one of your mucous membranes, like an eye, nose, ear, mouth or genitals.

The ships doctor got it and he didn’t go on any excursion he got it most likely from touching a sick passenger in his care.

There is at least one married couple who is likely to be P2P he died first then a few days later the wife died while being medivac to Joburg.

This strain has the potential to get ugly just like Ebola both are hemorrhagic fever virus and both have similar transmission metrics, formites of sweat, saliva and mucous become a real issue with HFV type viruses 24-48 hour surface viability of the virus gets bad bad in close proximity and quarters.

Remember the Dallas Ebola cluster every nurses got it with full PPE one, and the guys family all got it and they just disappeared into CDC care no one heard from them again once they evacuated the apartment where the guy infected them all at. They sent in hazmat teams who had to completely gut it out there was video of full bubble suit dudes hauling away carpets, drywall and furniture totally gutted it and the dumpster was marked biohazard with the universally accepted symbols for that made local news and the social media went nuts at the time.

I knew one of the nurses she hung out at the little east Dallas dive bar my crew frequents. We all got contacted by the CDC when she came back hot and had been at that bar while asymptomatic. How did they know who to contact you ask. Credit card receipts and cell phone location pings is how.

Made for 21 days of all of us doing twice daily temp checks confined to home and daily CDC calls. All our GF and spouses had to quarantine as well. Judge Jenkins issued the order legally for all of Dallas County residents those in Collin County were not under legal mandate but strongly encouraged to isolate for full 21 days this was well before covid.
